Questions about the TRD spring/shock combo.
I put in the combo and when installing i cut the bump stop in half like the diy on yoursciontc.com said to. is this a mistake? i knew i was going to loose some of the ride but when i hit a bump you really feel it. i also have the hotchkis sway bars installed. could this be adding to it?
Its unlikely that you are hitting the bumpstops after cutting them. I wouldn't worry about that. More likely its one of three things.
1. The spring rate is really higher than you really want (for comfortability sake.)
2. The swaybars are too big. (Because they tie the independent suspension together, single-wheel bumps now affect both sides of the car.)
3. It's mostly in your head, because you made a big change to the suspension to your car, you are more sensitive to the ride quality because you are paying more attention to it.
Most likely its a little of all three. You can try eliminating just the springs or just the swaybars and see if you are happier with the ride...

Since you are running on 18s (im assuming you have the RS1.0 wheels installed still), your ride quality will automatically be reduced, but also I see in your profile you have some heavy stereo equipment installed your car as well. Im willing to be that the extra weight is causing the rear shocks and springs to work harder to cope with the added weight and is causing a harsher than expected ride. I basically have the same setup as you do sans the Hotchkis front sway (havent gotten around to installing that yet) and am on 17's and the ride is firmer than stock but not harsh by any means. If it is possible to try driving the car with the subs and amp removed I would recommend giving it a try to see if it makes a difference. I know that in my past experiences, friends with heavy stereo equipment in the back of the car have issues with the rear end bouncing more over bumps and having the ride quality suffer due to the suspension parts not being designed to handle that much extra weight all the time.
