Default Rotors and pads for 05

Dealer just gave me word that my front and rear rotors are shot.

Thinking of diying the job. Any recommendations for replacement rotors? Don't want to spend a ton but want something decent (not terribly concerned about the aesthetics).

Thanks!

Dezod has deals going from time to time. PM Paul_Dezod to get a package deal.

I got a stoptech stage 2 kit from Nurspec, one of the online vendors. Got a pretty good deal and awesome customer service. The kit includes slotted front and rear rotors, axxis brake pads, ss brake lines, and motul dot4 brake fluid.

What did you pay? It's just a daily driver for me so really I'm ok with the stock gear but if I can get better gear for not too much more then I feel like I ought to do that.

Check out the Dezod braking section. They have everything from stock blanks and simple pads all the way up to a Stage2 kit to replace everything.

I'm going for the Stage2 later this summer.

I got my kit about 1.5-2 years ago. I asked for a deal and he gave me the entire kit for about $450 shipped. They have it advertised on their site right for about about $545. http://www.nurspec.com/product-detai...ed_Rotors.aspx

keep in mind, you cannot file down slotted or drilled. replacement or solid rotors will last twice as long, pending on driving

Anyone replace their own rotors and have any trouble getting the nuts off? Am I going to need an impact wrench or breaker bar for this?

Any tech guides on rotor changing for the tc?

Thanks

what nuts? there are no screws holding the rotors onto the hub, it's a "floating rotor". The lug nuts on the wheels keep the rotor in place. There is a U bracket that holds the calipers onto the hub, that also helps keep the rotor on a little. A breaker bar and a little penetrating oil (on one bolt) is really all I needed to loosen those bracket bolts. 17" breaker bar is what I have. I did the whole thing with a breaker bar, socket, and torque wrench (putting it all back together). Best money I ever saved!

If you want some decent rotors like OEM, Tirerack.com has the Brembo OEM replacement rotors for the tC, $63 each front, and like $33 or so for the rear. Much cheaper than paying a dealer to turn them. If you want pads, well that's different. The stock pads, i thought were leaving too much material on the old rotors, causing them to vibrate. Didn't think they were that good of a pad. I personally like Porterfield's R4S carbon kevlar pad, but they're $90 a pair for the front and $80 for the rear. Maybe that's too much $$$ for you?

Could always call up Ken at TRDSparks.com and see about the trd pads, and member - Ack154 just put up a great review on EBC's yellowstuff pads. Seems he likes them a lot, don't know how much $$ they are but good performance.

I've also heard good things about NAPA's line of premium rotors but haven't ever used them. Hope that helps
