always get both, if you only get springs, your stock struts are driving on borrowed time

The TRD springs are made to be used with the stock struts or the TRD struts. Sure, the stock ones will wear out a little sooner, but they're not going wear out that much sooner.

Default Shocks and Springs

Whatever you decide, we still have some specials on the Springs and Shocks from TRD and the Hotchkis Springs and Sway bar sets.

If you get the TRD springs, you dont' have to worry about the shocks until after you warantee is over. But since they are designed to work together, I dont' see why they wouldn' last the 3 years through the warantee.

*sigh* This has been discussed to death. I did a search and below was one of the many threads that came up.

Hey, I got a question for you. If you get adjustable coilovers, like the Tiens, do they replace the springs and shocks? Or do they go around the existing shocks?

That's what I thought. And I guess that would justify their much higher price tag. The reason I ask is because I have seen alot of threads asking which shocks to use with tien basics. I guess they must have ment just the tien springs.

So then, with coilovers, do you get that bounce in the ride like you do with a 2" drop on stock shocks?

one more question to add to this list...

How about the ground-control coilovers, do they also completly replace the shocks and springs?

That bounce comes from a stiffer spring coupled with the wrong (usualy factory) dampers. If the spring rate is too high the damper will not be able to do its job because the spring is overpowering it, resulting in a bouncy ride. I reccomend buying the TRD spring/dampers as a set if you can afford it. (You should save on labor if you are having it done at a dealer.)

Are you looking to increase the handeling of your car, or just make it lower to the ground?

Not if you are talking about something like this. This is a spring and spring-perch that fits over a damper (shock) to provide adjustable height.

(edit: sorry that was supposed to be one post. i'ma )

Thanks! That's exactly what I thought.
I am going for handling and looks, so I just have the TRD Springs cause there are no after market shocks yet. So the stock shocks should last until my warantee is up, then I'll get some coilovers. There should be plenty more out by then.

another question... the TRD shocks won't lower the ride any more than the TRD springs with stock shocks will they?
