Default So I want to get coilovers...

...probably the teins, but should i get basic or SS? is basic the SS just set to the maximum stiffness?

also, is the basic compatible with EDFC? what other coilovers have an electronic interface?

thanks!

The SS had dampening adjustability whereas the basics dont have jack. I think you're better off with the SS IMO.

but if you put the SS on stiffest, isnt that what the basic is?

are the progress coilovers worth the money?

what's better, h&r, progress or tein basic? (im not talking about adjustability features, i'm talking about raising the skidpad ratings here )

Basically H&R and Progress will give you better comfort than performance. It still will feel stiffer but is better for DD. I have the Tein Basics and I have to tell you the performance is awesome but the comfort level is too high since this is my DD. If you don't care much for comfort then Basics. If you car for comfort and some performance I say you get H&R or Progress. They are both pretty top notch quality but the Progress can lower 4 inch max for front and rear if I am not mistaken but the H&R can only go about 3 inches max.

I have to disagree, Progress and especially H&R will give you comfort AND performance. As far as skidpad numbers, I haven't measured it with my H&Rs, but I'm holding the road extremely well on stock wheels and tires; even out cornering some true sports cars. The comfort level is high enough for me to commute 200 miles round trip to Santa Barbara, take two trips to Vegas, and drive 900 to and from El Paso, TX with no fatigue.

installing them yourself should take about 2 hours, and an alignment should be under $100

You're getting ripped off. If you want to take it to someone to get them installed you shouldn't have to pay more $200-$230 for installation and alignment.

yea i decided to install it myself and get it aligned somewhere else....

what does a low spring rate mean? stiffer or more comfortable?? i cant make up my mind on what coilovers to get.... i'm leaning toward progress though

Lower spring rate = less stiff.

hmm... so who has the highest spring rate?

i've heard the progress ones have the lowest so now I think I do not want those.... basically i want the coilovers that will bring my skidpad rating up the most.

A lower spring rate usually means a softer spring, however it doesn't always mean more comfortable; spring type (progressive or linear) and dampers also help determine how stiff coilovers feel. Progress coilover are probably the softest coilovers available for the tC at 250 lb/in Front, 350 lb/in Rear [linear], TEIN Basics are 392 lb/in Front, 559 lb/in Rear [linear], and H&R are probably the stiffest coilovers available for the tC at 457 lb/in Front, estimated 572 lb/in Rear [progressive], yet the TEIN Basics feel much stiffer than the H&Rs because of the spring type/spring rate/damper combination.

ok so basically h&r will be my best bet?

is it just me or does the build quality not seem to match that of the progress coilovers?

How so? Tein has always striked me as top notch producers.

H&R, Progress, and TEIN are all top-notch coilovers in terms of build quality, and there are others that are just as well built that I didn't list. With a few exceptions in terms of quality, coilover choices for the tC come down to cost, features, handling, and comfort.

It basically comes down to how much you want to spend and which one you want. If you don't want to spend too much then Basics, but if you don't want your lunch coming back up then Progress or H&R.
