Default Stoptech BBK or Stage 2

I have been debating between the two for a while now and cannot come up with a decision.

For all of you that track/race your cars what would you suggest. i plan to do alot of road racing within the next couple of months, and was wondering which would be better.

i was reading on stoptech's site that they do not recomend the stage 2 kits for long track days, they suggest the bbk.. but is it necessary?

would my car perform just as well if i simply had a stage 2 kit and maybe hawk or axxis pads?

Thanks for any info that you can give

i think the answer to your question depends alot on your realistic racing plans.

if your just doing lapping events or short sprints (30 laps or less) then the factory calipers will work just fine. In the lapping events ive attended, i never had an issue with brake fade. just upgrade the brake lines, pads, and fluid and the factory calipers and rotors should do the job. i would recommend a true race pad though. i ran the axxis ultimates, a street pad, at a lapping event and they were glazed over before the end of the day from the heat. the problem with race pads is you cant use them on the street.

if your gunna be putting hours of laps on the brakes then a bbk would probably be a good idea. i havnt run that many continuous laps yet, so i dunno how the factory setup will holdup, but i imagine a bbk would be good just for the piece of mind. but if your doing that kind of racing the cost of a bbk is peanuts compared to the dough you will be dropping for tires.

i will add though...with a bbk you will have a huge range of pads to choose from, there is a very limited selection for the factory calipers. which is why most people go with the bbk. but im more than happy with the performance of the hawk race pads on the factory calipers and would rather spend the huge cost of a bbk on something else.

in all honesty, the stage 2 will be more than enough for your needs. its hard to justify the price difference. the main reason to go to a bbk is cooling.

im sure once your speed and skills are ready for a bbk, you'll know. better yet would to get a set of rotors and pads for each application. since race pads need to be at high operating temps and they tend to eat your rotors when they arent, having two sets will save you money down the line. brake pads also need to be bedded in each time you change them and after initial bed in, the bed in material is all used up.

yeah, and stoptech will even tell you, the best upgrade you can make for better stopping is actually upgrading your tires. the better contact patch makes a much bigger difference, tires with no traction won't even stop with 6 piston brembos squeezing the rotor.

if your just an aggressive driver and not an autocrosser or track racer, then the stage two is all you'll need.

i got the dezod motorsport package with slotted front and rear rotors and axxis ultimate padz, they work great except for the squeal on braking when the brakes are cold, but the few panic stops i have had to make, they work far better than the stock set did.
