Default suggestions on coilovers

I was wondering which coilover suspension would be best if i wanted a smooth ride and will help lessen the body roll? i know i will need sways or struts to help roll.

I think for body roll you going to need sway bars. If you are looking for smooth ride then coilovers not for you.

Any coilovers will trash your ride as far as comfort goes. I have H&R, and they are very tolerable, but it's definately no BMW.

okay well forget about smooth then since i found out smooth only comes with a stock suspension or so. If i wanted a tight and feel in control of my car then which coilover is good for their price? i was thinking tein basic since it is in my price range but what would you recommend?

I heard good things about Tein. If your looking for comfort with a little more stiffness, and handling that will hold when you push it, go with the TRD set up. But if you need adjustable and cheap go with the Tein Basics.

Smooth ride compared to what, exactly? Your levels of comfort with current tC coilovers will range from riding on railroad tracks to riding on railroad tracks covered in dead bodies.

Swaybars are better for curing this than coilovers. Thick ones.

If these are your only two concerns (smooth ride and less roll) for fiddling with your suspension, coilovers aren't a good buy for you. A good set of shocks/struts and at least a rear swaybar will do you much better for about as much money.

I too have H&R coilovers... out of all the coilovers made for the TC, they are the smoothest of them all. I reccommend em!

i'm lowered all the way down up front, the rears have an inch of threads left in them.

H&R and Tein's are on the complete opposite sides of the playground. Tein's are on the stiff side. if you want a smooth/comfy ride, stick with H&R or Progress.

www.allsprings.com for H&R stuff

That's why. H&R coilovers weren't designed to be lowered to the max; once you go past -1.5" the ride begins to suffer... it's still smooth, just not as smooth as it should be.

As for the original poster, if you don't go below -1.4-1.5", go with H&R, if you want to dump it to the ground, find something else like Progress.

so many wrongs.

to straighten it out;
1. if you are looking for a smooth ride, you have to find the RIGHT set of coilovers.

2. not ALL coilovers will trash your ride, H&R at the right ride height will be phenomenal (had them) my HKS ride like a DREAM completely dumped with the dampening set to softest in the front and harder in the back, i have heard B&G offers a nice ride, and so does K-Sport and a few others (if you are on a budget i recomend H&R i loved them when i had them)

3. H&R is def not the smoothest, Zeal is the smoothest, but they should for their price, then i would say that even after that (i cant say anything about the JICs i havent heard anyone say how the ride quality was) HKS is definately smooth (at least 5x more comfortable then my H&R set up).

it would be nice if people knew what they were talking about before tehy tried to give advice. so far in this thread the only person i saw offer good advice was 2fast4you. the rest were bias opinions.

also this is not a bias opinion this is just my experiance between stock suspension, hotchkis springs, H&R coilovers and now HKS coilovers.

Stock was smoothest but least comfortable (if that makes any sense, i felt there was too much give in the suspension and not enough control).

Hotchkis was nice for a temporary drop, the shocks gave out fast and te ride was horrible, the springs in the front sagged bad and the springs started rusting out on me.

H&R coilovers were a night and day difference between stock and hotchkis, with them DUMPED the ride was ok at best, but with a mild drop it felt like it was a complete diffrerent system almost.

HKS coilovers are by far the best set up i have had to date. with them all the way down and the dampening dialed in the way a like it i have a SMOOTH stockish ride where i can still feel some of the bumps on the road but they arent bad at all and to be honest i have a "gliding" feeling as i go over the bumps (if that makes sense). and i have all the adjustments needed (besides camber) to raise it up a bit and tighten the suspension up to carve some corners too :D

so to say that all coilovers are bad is false. do some solid research on what each system has to offer and them make your decisions, i would have came here last after you narrowed it down to at least 3 systems. What works for someone else might not be what you are looking for. so make sure you are happy in the end.

hey dave....so when you say you have all the adjustments needed besides camber to change the height, does that mean you don't need to get a realignment every time you change your height?

what i meant by adjustments was that i can dial in the ride height and the ride comfort, it is still recomended to get an alignment, but i havent, im waiting to get a camber kit.
