Tein SS-P Coilovers + EDFC
Does anyone have these? I was concerned about the pillowball mounts because I do drive my car as a daily driver ( which is why I like the idea of the Electronic Damping Force Controller for adjustability purposes ). but I don't want to break my teeth every bump I drive over. I was thinking I'd do just the Tein SS coilovers w/o pillow ball mounts, but they're not compatible with the EDFC.
Anyone have any input on this? Also, if you know of any other coilovers that offer adjustability like the SS-P's (i don't mind if it doesn't have an EDFC, I can always adjust them myself, because I'll know ahead of time if I really need to)? Thanks for your input.

My BWM-M3-driving-elitist friend thinks that the race style mounts will damage the shock towers if driven aggressively. He thinks the feel of the suspension will be driveable when adjusted softest but doesn't think the mounts are good for a street driven car. If I get these mounts he thinks I need some type of reinforcement on the shock towers for them to withstand daily aggressive driving.
I do plan on working towards my regional driving license here in the near future however I do still use my car as a daily driver as well.. I'm willing to sacrifice a little comfort for performance. Though I thought my friend brought up a good point, although I still believe the Tein SS-P's are a good product.

I have SS-Ps (w/o the EDFC, I just manually adjust them) and havem set to nearly the harshest setting as my daily driver. It does get bumpy on poor road conditions, but nothing that isn't "insanely" out of hand. I've jumped in cars with springs only that are WAAY more bumpier. On good-decent road conditions it's like butter~ as I believe all tC's should have came stock like this.
In any case, like I said I have mine set on 12-14 I believe (I forgot since it's been so long ago that I adjusted it ~ 25K+ miles ago), I changed it cuz initially I had it on 6-8 and it was too "gushy", and the shocks would make a "breathing noise" in harsh conditions.. Anyways once I toughened the settings the noise stopped, ride was more solid and i highly recommend it to everyone.

Nope, no damage thus far. I hadem pro installed. They feel good still but obviously with more miles they aren't same as day 1, but i think i can say they feel more adapted to my vehicles parameters.
One thing in addition to SS-Ps are sway bar(s) (mine of which are set to the race setting). I have the TRD sway and it suites my needs however if I were to do it again I would seriously consider Hotchkis or Progressive sways (but fyi I have heard they are a pain to install for the fronts, and hotchkis had/has issue with the front one).
I do plan on getting 2 more items to increase performance. CorSports 4 Point Ingalls Rear Strut Tower Brace & a front strut bar (debating between DC and TRD mainly due to style differences)..

EDCF is great to have but just dont get your hopes up coz though it helps w/ dampening, it doesnt make your car as smooth as stock or ride like a lexus or something.. if your set it pretty low combined w/ its high spring rates you will still feel the roads and might still break your teeth lol (i assure you you will hate railroads).. Im not discouraging you against ssps, in fact i love mine but i would suggest to ride a tc that has one.. you might consider coilovers with lower spring rates (i think HKS is) that offers same adjustability but no EDFC though or be the first one and have custom spring rate on the ssp

noticeable for the DC front strut.

At the softest setting its close to TRD's springs/shocks.

I disagree ^.
In a stock tC drivin in a rough road condition will be uncomfortable no matter how u look at it. Perhaps if ur in a caddy u might not feel it's harshness, but wat i'm sayin is stock vs tein ssp will both have their "daily driving appeal" diminished (but obviously with teins it'll be a harsher ride). Both situations u'd be feelin discomfort plain & simple.. If i were to rate it, i'd say in a harsh condition the stock tC would be (perhaps) a "7" (1 bein unbearable and 10 being riding on pillows), versus a Tein SSP tC perhaps a 4-5.

either way, its not the harshness of the "jolt" from the bump that makes it uncomfortable, its the stress of not being able to stop or accelerate or turn the car because a wheel has left the road surface, or fighting to keep the wheel straight and stay in your lane that makes it uncomfortable.
im just sharing my experience. if you live in a place like southern california where the majority of the roads are in decent shape, its probably not much of a burden. but in a place where the majority of the roads are in rough shape because of snow and ice...it becomes a burden.
Since you don't live in SoCal I don't assume you'd understand my daily conditions and how bad roads can get. Either way I've been on "offroad" conditions w/ SSPs which I can definitely classify as BEYOND "rough", and let me tell you even stock I wouldn't wish it upon anybody.
The point is harsh road conditions no matter what is gonna be uncomfortable. Any kind of lowering will sacrifice the ride comfort but increase performance. Give-&-take..

I agree road conditions plays a lot when describing ride on ssp. My road here is not bad (not that great too) but when I drove on dallas roads its a different story, my teeth are are breaking, you feel bump every 3 sec while driving.. but then thats the only place i complained about my ssps

Did ya'll get em installed by a shop or did you guys do it yourself. I just don't want to take too hard of a hit on these, they cost over a grand and a mechanic would charge almost as much to get em installed.
