Default Towing with an '08 tC

Yes, I've done some Googling, and yes, I've found other threads that talk about this. The difference here is that those threads all concerned preserving warranties and straining the engine.
I'm looking to start a drift build, and I'm thinking I might just buy a salvage title and not bother with making it street legal. In such a case, I'll want to buy a Class II trailer and hitch, and weld the hitch onto my tC.

Warranty's out of the question. I bought this thing with some bolt-ons and 100k on the odometer. I'm currently waiting on stock parts to replace the bolt-ons in order to get the oil consumption test to see if I'm eligible for a new engine.
The transmission is on its way out. I was not easy on the clutch, 2nd gear sticks. As soon it's smoked, I'm swapping the whole engine/drive train for something else (I know it's not cost efficient on a car worth $3000, but I like it).
In other words, I'm not concerned with the longevity of my engine or voiding my warranty. I'm also not concerned about brakes. I'm concerned with dropping my trailer and drift car on possibly 200 mile trips.

I'm also curious about whether I'll be able to tow 2000-2400lbs. I doubt anyone's been stupid enough to try it, but hey, someone's got to!

I think that what you are thinking about doing is very unsafe and dangerous. Not just for you but for everyone else on the road around you. I'm not saying it cant be done, but I don't think its worth the effort. You will need to upgrade your suspension,
get a special built trailer, and if you have to climb any hills you will need more power... possibly a stronger transmission... basically you need a completely different vehicle. Save yourself the headache and get a proper tow vehicle. Good luck!

Alright, thanks! I wasn't planning on just jumping on this, I wanted to do some research. I plan on talking to my local Toyota dealership (although they'll probably avoid it for liability reasons) to find out specifically what would be the weak points.
I'll also talk to my mechanic and see if he can't help out. I figure if there's a way I can make it safe to drive for under $5k it'll be cheaper than buying and maintaining a 3rd car, especially if it's just for transport. And I'm attached to this car, so I'm willing to go the extra mile to make it work.

And as for power, I have been looking at different options for swapping it out.
Then again, I may just abandon this plan and try something else. It's still in its early stages.
