TRD springs conclusion
yea its another trd springs topic
i read alot of people who installed trd spring and whatever other brand springs, were having some problems with the passenger side being higher than the driver side. Did this happen to the majority of people? did they all settle evenly after a while or was there some other solution?
i plan on getting trd springs next week so just want to make sure everything is kewl

does this happen just for the peoplle that install the trd lowering springs on the stock shocks? im planning on getting both the trd shocks and springs...as a matter of fact, they should be coming in by the end of this week at the earliest :-D. from wut i read, only the ppl that put them on stock shocks hav this problem..am i wrong?
The varying hieghts on the TRD springs is caused by improper installations, there is a point on the strut that the end of the spring shouldnt go past, its right before the notch in the bottom of the strut, if the spring rotates past that point, it sits very slightly lower. Just have someone who knows what theyre doing install em. I'm lucky my best friend is toyota certafied so he pointed this out to me while we installed em.

However, I think the issue is the driver's side setting before the passenger side, because people generally drive alone. I've read other people with other springs having the same issue. This is an issue with gravitational physics, not spring integrity.

I just thought I'd mention ut b/c there is atleast 10 threads about this, I figured some people just were'nt paying attention or something. My car sits level and all of the springs are rotated correctly is all i know.
I have the TRD Struts and Springs installed; I love them! There have never been any issues with uneveness, and 90% of time with only a driver for about 5000 miles so far. Unless you are seriously obese, I am fairly confident that most of these uneveness issues are do to improper springs installs.
The reason one side sits higher or lower is that the technicians didn't read the instructions that came with the springs. I helped installed the springs and shocks with my buddy at work who is a certified technician. Trust me certified doesn't me that much because I am not and corrected him twice tonight. I have been correcting a lot of technicians within a year, isn't that sad. Here's the reason, they are usually underpaid and tired. Anyways he put the rear springs in the front and when he tried to put the front ones in the rear they were too big for the mounts.
The instructions states that the rear spring ends should be the same positionl So if the end is at 3 o'clock then the both left and right should be all at 3 o'clock. The fronts don't matter because the spring ends catch onto the mount so that it doesn't move around.

one of the dealerships wanted 650 JUST to install the springs...........i laughed and hung up
The Dealers really vary a lot depending on location and interest in the job. We charge $320 to $360 and that includes the 4 wheels alignment.

lol wow, i was thinkin pretty cheap u know 50 to 100 bucks...lol but daaaamn...if i were to get trd springs and have some shop install it or some ppl i know would it nullify the warranty if toyota doesnt do the isntall even though they are trd?
You won't void your warranty by putting springs on your car as long as they are made to go on your car and the install is done correctly. A Dealer must prove that the install was done incorrectly and damaged the car or that the part is defective and damaged your car. A Dealer cannot just 'say' you don't have a warranty.

here is my post from yoursciontc.com:
I figured it out............checked everything and they were in correctly......upon inspection of the struts when they are out of the car you will notice that the orientation of the left spring is different than the right (so they will fit). because of this the left strut becomes abou 1/8-1/4 inch shorter!! FIX!!!!!! (def. REAR BUT PROB FRONT TOO!!!!)..............LEAVE THE STRUTS IN THE CAR!!!!!! take the trunk apart so you can see the top of the struts (you have to take out the side walls). Once you can see the strut tops, pry the plastic cover off. NOW WITH THE CAR ON THE GROUND (not jacked up), crank the strut top nut down on the strut that is higher!!! YOU WILL BE AMAZED AT HOW FAR DOWN YOU CAN GO. This will essentially "even out" the two sides. I assume this will work on the front as well, as you can take theplastic tops out to see the screw with NO EFFORT.
I got this tip from a mechanic who worked with race cars, and he said sometimes the shorter springs + the strut orientation will result in one side being taller (or shorter). That is why there will be some thread left in the strut top screw.
Good Luck.............THIS WORKED FOR ME!
