Default What is the point of sway or strut tie bars ?

For normal, every day driving on flat roads with the occasional bump or pothole . . . aren't they worthless ?

Scion.com wants 500.00 + for both

Strut tie bar will do next to nothing. It's is MOSTLY for looks in the engine bay. There are some arguments to refute that, but no real hard evidence that they offer any valuable performance upgrade.

Rear sway bar, on the other hand, will offer a great performance benefit for the money. If you're interested, there are other ones available as well, and the install is cake with a few simple tools and a set of ramps. Worth if you at least want to improve your daily driver.

rear sway= best bang for buck suspension mod. The progress sway also comes with rear endlinks making the deal even sweeter...

Yea my trd sway bar is probably my favorite thing I have added to my car, it made so much difference in driving even for daily driving. Got mine of trd sparks for like $160 and took me 20 mins to put in. No need to spend 500

Trdsparks.com

TRD or a hotckis w.e you spell it are very good sway bars. Both come with instructions how to install.

TRD install : http://trdsparks.com/install/00602-48800-110inst.pdf

enjoy!

yeah just jack the rear up. Un tighten those bolts. The tricky part is to maneuver the bar from underneath the car. then manuever the new bar in. maybe 1.5 hour install?

If you read some of the stuff that Dezod posted a while back in their endlink threads, you should install the rear sway while the tires are on the ground.... or in this case, on a set of ramps.

And as for a rear sway suggestion: either TRD or Progress would be fine for a daily driver. The Progress comes with new endlinks so it costs a bit more. The Hothckis kit is unnecessary for a daily driver. Especially for the headache of installing the front bar. Just not necessary.

x2. The cost is only $20 more for the Progress Rear Sway over the TRD Sway. New end links justify the price.
Want to hear something funny? Progress makes the TRD Sway. It's just re-badged.

The progress bar has 3 settings which is kinda nice compared to the trd only having 2. I believe the bars are both 22mm though...
