Default Whats better for the TC, Struts or Coilovers.

Just curious what is better for the TC, what makes the TC handle better. I just got the TRD rear sway bar and im quite impressed with that so far, so i'm thinking of doing a couple more suspension mods. I checked the Search engine on here but like the noob I am, I couldnt find the answers I was looking for. Instead I end up reading crazy threads like the TRD Tc vs the SI. Now that was a funny thread. LOL. But yeah guys, im a nubcake so give me a little advice/help...

Struts or Coilovers... Whats better.

Thanks guys

coilovers are adjustable, springs are not...

Just depends on what you want out of your car???

Now I know this sounds foolish, but I want my TC to get as close to handling as my 3000gt was. Im pretty sure thats a feat that cant be done, but I want to try. Adjustable is nice.

I would point you to adjustable so you can tune it to your liking

As mentioned, if you dont fully tune them (and get ones that are fully adjustable) then adjustable coilovers are a waste of money.

If you want it to handle well and will take the time to do it, then get some Tein SS-P's.

Set the ride height to about 1.4 inches lower than stock
Corner balance it
Have it aligned with about -2 degrees of negative camber all the way around
The TRD sway is pretty nice (I run one) but to push it further you can go with the hotchkis front and rear set.

Coilovers, I had Tokico Struts and Skunk2 Springs and they rode amazing, just like stock, but too much body roll, Bought some Function and Form Coilovers and body roll is Eliminated, and they're adjustable if I want to go softer, but it handles %400 better than the tokicos and %1000 better than stock

Not true.

Coilovers are only "better" if you actually plan to tune the suspension and/or change ride height all the time. If you just want to drop it on some better springs and not tune it, adjustable coilovers are a waste of money.

Engifineer is right on all accounts. Coilovers are amazing. But i would almost guarantee that there are only a few people on this site that can adjust them to actually make the car handle better.

Take Sciontistical, for example. Not to knock him but he is the one that happened to post. His car handles worse than stock. And I can say that without ever haven driven it. It might RIDE NICER, or LOOK NICER. But his handling characteristics are totally screwed because of how low he went with it. So when he says Coilovers FTMFW!!! That doesnt Equal COILOVERS FTMFHANDLING!!!

There is an article I have posted multiple times that adresses drop heights, corner wieghts, rebound, and dampening. And with professionals doing it, the optimal drop was 1.38inches all around. Anything lower and they said it was worse than not lowering it at all.

Unless you're taking the car to a track, coilovers are a waste of money.

I disagree w/them being a waste of money, if you know about suspension, and how it works, and how to adjust things like toe, and camber, you should handle so much better than stock, or better than struts and springs, I had tokico struts and skunk2 springs, which was the same drop as the s.techs, and my car handled amazing, but then I bought Function and Form coilovers, and it's a completely different car, the rear end is so much tighter, and steering response is increased dramatically. If you can adjust them to where you don't have a negative effect on driving, coilovers(especially ones w/adjustable dampening) are the way to go. You can def. feel the difference driving, it's incredible, the softest setting on my coilovers is compareable to the tokicos, but the stiffest setting is like riding on rails, just my .02

I gotta disagree too... the cost of a proper spring and strut set up can cost just as much as coilovers, and the adjustability in the height and dampening is especially valuable, even on the street.

I'm the type of guy that might change up the sound system in the back once in a while so the varying weight of a new sub(s)/box will change the drop in the rear and the ability to adjust it is great for maintaining that perfect front/back level look.

Just my $.02
