18'' wheels with 2 or 3 inch lip!

Thats a stretched tire. People use it so they can go low while still being able to turn.
For example, last week I was riding on my stock wheels which have 215/50/17's (tire width in mm/tire sidewall profile in %s/tire diameter) and with those tires I was hardly able to turn without rubbing. But I am really low.
For you, I would run 215/40's or 205/40's. Should be fine.
Stretching a tire on a rim is using a smaller width tire on your rim in order to stretch it. Aggressive stance cars usually have to do it. This provides some better fender clearance on lowered cars. Looks like this..

But on that size (18x8 e35) you probably wont need to stretch your tires. Since it isn't aggressive on the tC and you are not super low. You would be good with 205/40/18, 215/40/18 or 225/40/18. Depending on how much meat you want on your tire.
