Default 245/45-17

Has anyone tried runiing this size tire. I know its an inch taller than stock but I am curious how it will affect gearing on the highway and also at the drag strip. I wonder if n/a cars would be able to run the quarter without shifteing into fourth.

Thanks

Jeremy

You will want around a +45 minimum offset but may need a +48 to fit without rubbing.

I think the gearing difference though not huge may help you out.

It will also help if not getting heavy wheels, please say you are not

A bit heavy but far better than most wheels then

The offset is perfect.

I have 235/40/17 on 17x8 +35 for my street and rain autocross tires.

I have 245/45/17 Kumho V710s for my race tires, I cannot get the 8.5 or 8 I prefer from my sponsor so will have 8" wide instead at +45mm offset.

I am looking forward to slightly taller gearing actually

I think I am going to try the 245/45. I currently have falken azenis rt-615 in a 225/45 on the stock wheels. I really like these tires but they weigh almost 29lbs in a 245/45-17. I have also been looking a the Kumho mx. The mx weighs 25.5lbs. I am open to any opinions on tires.

The MX is a bit old now so they are not the top of the game now. The 615 is terribly heav I agree, the Hankook RS-2 (S212) is rated number 2 behind them in some tests and weighs alot less but I do not remember where I found that info.

I really like the RS-2, I think you would as well.

Are you running coilovers? If so what brand? What is your ride height set at? Do you have any pictures of your car with the 245/45?

Thanks

What do you think about running a 255/40 on an 8.5. This is the size I originally wanted to run.

With the right offset it could work but I have not tried it so cannot say for certain it would be ok.

I have Tein SSPs and Megans, running the Megans up front and Teins out back while waiting for the Megan mods to arrive to do the final testing then will decide which to keep .

The Megans are alot lighter than the Tiens and the fit and finish is much better but the real deal is how they actually perform which I will know soon it seems.

I have 1" of wheel gap with 235/40/17 tires, any lower and the geometry gets all messed up and the car does not handle very well.

I am not running 245's yet as my race wheels have not arrived, just the tires.

Check the Yoursciontc.com forum for info on using 245s, a number of people are, Lance started it
