Default Activating brand new TPMS Sensors 08 tC?

So I put stock rims on the tC. I bought brand new TPMS and since they are brand new they told me they need to be activated and then programmed to the tC. I did search and saw the sticky for TPMS with the How To. But since these are brand new, do I definitely have to take it to the stealership to do everything? Has anyone done it here and how much did it run you. (I did Google and found that I'm supposed to activate them by pressing the valve core to reduce the tire inflation rapidly by 6 psi or more within 30 seconds and by doing so to each TPMS they will become activated and then can be programmed)
I did this several times but they still show they are in "sleep mode".

Anyone with a hook up in NY that can help me!!! Just scareeeed of the stealership............Thanks

you are out of luck on that one my friend. what you described up there is if you already had the tpms sensors already programmed to the car. unfortunately you need the dealership scan tool to program those and i think they charge an arm and a leg for re- programming.

The serial number on each sensor are needed to program them to be recognized. I was charged for the breakdown of the tire for them to get that number(forgot how much they charged) and was then programmed to the TPMS. Was not happy as Sears should have gone to the dealer and had that taken care of when they replaced the sensor(broke the original sensor putting the tire back on).

Yeah I'm currently in Toyota tpat program you'll have to go to the dealership to have the serials programmed to your ecm. Like stated above the process you did is only for initiating them after say the car was shipped to you or had been in storage for a while. No idea on a price though its fairly simple

There is a thread describing how to do it inexpensively, but that may've pertained to buying some TPMS sensors cheaply. From that thread a member had to pay a little over $100 to get the second set reprogrammed.

It was a thread about running a second set of wheels with separate sensors for each set. I'm on my phone at work so it's hard for me to search for it...
