Default Anyone try 9" wide wheels yet?

I already know 8.5x17 with the right offset will work and with 245 tires but I may have a lead on some very lite 9" wheels and would love to run them on my 245 race tires for more sidewall support. Later on I may flare the fenders a bit and go to 275mm wide tires, 9's can work with that much tire.

Custom machining is required on these wheels so I need to get an idea of fitment before I lay down the cash for them, I will anounce what they are if I can this to work but not until then so please do not ask, if it works I will let everyon know

I have no intention of staggered offsets, unless it was wider up front, I'm into real performance and this is a FWD so only interested in what works, not what it looks like, hope you understand;)

My intention is to build the best handling tC, period, probably pretty close if not there already but I wan to take it to the highest lever possible.

my guess is there would have to be some sort of fender modification. also i think that going that wide might hurt cornering abilty (like turn in) to some degree.

I know it would be close up front but in the rear not a problem.

I can work around the turn in issues with castor, camber, toe, etc settings so not worried about that.

I am really only concerned with clearance issues with the tires hitting the fender liners(plastic ones I can remove but hard metal areas are a bit tougher) and hitting the fenders themselves but rolling or flairing may be needed and not some suedo bolt on flare, real flares which are authorized in our class.

I do not mind a pretty high amount of effort to make it work, just not an insane amount as just do not have the time to invest into it

Thanks,
Rick

I have been trying to figure out what the widest wheel we can run is. It really depends on what your suspension setup is. I have found that the people that are running 17x8.5 wheels and 245 tires are also running stock style suspension where the spring perch is actually located above the tire. If you are running this style of suspension than a 9" wide wheel is possible and also a 255 tire. If you are running a coilover setup than you are not going to have as much clearence because the spring perch is lower. I figured out that 17x8.5 w/48mm offset is the widest you can run with coilovers and also a 245 tire is the widest you can run without a spacer. I can run a 255 if I want to use a 5mm spacer but a 255 is not going to perform any better on a 8.5 than a 245.

i always love reading your posts even when asking a question you seem so knowledgable and articulate. hope you figure the clearence issue out. they have sick carbon fiber widebody kits that may be worth looking into depending on your taste and goals.

No CF widebodies for me, I want as close to stock look as possible, just big fat tires tucked underneath

Thanks, I do not know it all, nobody does, I am good at digging in and finding out the truth from the magnitude of BS fostered on us by less than ethical manfs;)
