Default Bridgestone Potenza RE960AS Pole Position

Anyone heard anything about these Bridgestone Potenza RE960AS Pole Position?

http://www.tirerack.com/tires/survey...jsp?type=UHPAS

These ratings are unbelievable, yet there have not been many miles reported on them yet...Better reviews than the avon or pirellis....+/- $150 a pop though

Anyone know anything about em?

They're rated #1 because they're brand spanking new. I'm really waiting on the winter tire tests on them - while they're rated high right now, they need a lot more miles, and YEAR ROUND testing to be considered #1 in my book. Just summer testing doesn't cut it.

IMO - it looks like they'll be very slippery in the snow.

I'm with you, but i'm about to buy new tires and I was going to go with the Avon - which I know you have krdshrk and I know they are great tires, but these beat them in EVERY category w/o having the winter testing done - so i'm trying to hold off for a little while...they seem pretty impressive!

I just have no idea how they are going to do with the snow (I would guess pretty good from their otherwise great ratings), and the price is a lot more! For +/- $100 a piece, the avons are really a great deal. I'm torn!

bump, looking for some more reponses/opinions - I know the tires are new...

Just wondering krdshrk, why did you go with the 215s rather than the 225s?

OEM size that's all. Plus wider wheels/tires in winter is bad.

Also - IMO the pole position show off a higher rating because they look like more of a summer tire.. just look at the tread pattern.

With so few miles on them i wouldn't trust the ratings. How can you rate tire wear when you have 5k miles on the tire? It's not noticeable at that point. Buy the Avons and keep your money.

i have driven on these tires. and they handle pretty well in wet and snowy conditions considering they arent snow tires.
i mean no all season is gonna be gods gift to snow traction

they are also really quiet and smooth tires.
and have a decent tread life.

i plan on getting them when i get 18's
but i work for bridgestone so i get them way cheaper than most. so for me its a no brainer.

but the avons are really nice tires as well.
if i where on a budget id get the avons

Great, i've been looking for that first hand experience! Thanks for the honest assessment especially considering you work for bridgestone!

I've been debating getting the bridgestones, avons, or the pirellis, but now its in my head to possibly get 2 snow tires for the front as well. Right now, i've pretty much ruled out the pirellis and the avons are on the top of my list just because of the price difference between them and the potenzas. I'll probably just end up getting the avons and leave it at that, but i'm glad to hear that the bridgestones are (relatively) good on snow...that puts them back in the running!
