pete the size of the bolts shouldn't matter as you're not adding additional thickness to clamp. YOU MAY however have to switch from the head going on the front side to the back side.

 

actually yes i am adding... on the face the hole that lines up the outter area of of the black with the face is recessed in a bit which makes the bolt sit flush on the face and not up and out. so i might need to compensate for that. see below



the bolt and nut on the back do not have alot of thread going through it so im going to double check tonight and tighten down a few bolts... that will tell me for you.

 

make sure you have at least 2 threads exposed

perfect, they typically say that you can have 1-2 threads under the bolt and still have the effective seating stress but i typically say 2 exposed for a safety factor. they do make extended bolts and nuts for wheels, they just may not be bbs and they may be well a buck a set

 

i'm gona agree with ^^. the bbs look like they're in pretttty bad condition, and its design doesn't really appeal to me.
