Question about ordering tires....
Ok, so I just called a local shop and ordered toyos, it was a special order so I had to put 50 down deposit cuz thats the price it costs to get it shipped to them. So...while I was on the phone though, I just told them I needed tires, I didn't say how many. How many didn't even cross my mind, I just assumed they would know I needed 4 and they didn't ask. So...I told the lady I'll go down and make the deposit right away, cuz it was 4:20 and they close at 5. So...I went and paid, got home and saw the receipt, and it said 2 under quantity and also 2 quantity under mount too...so it wasn't a mistake. When you order tires, do you usually assume this? that you only want 2 tires? =/
If you don't specify the quantity, they'll assume you only want 2 tires. They probably checked what type of
car you drove and decided you needed to replace the fronts. (FWD) Never buy just 1 tire. Your treadwear
will suck. If you have the $$$, just order 2 more tires, have the shop put the new tires on the front, wait
for the 2 other tires and replace the rears. You should be fine until then. No need to worry.

...I guess now I know they assume 2 if you dont say how many, lesson learned here(thanks for that btw =]). I was wondering if it was my fault or that lady's, turns out its mine, now I just gotta hope she doesn't charge me extra or anything for the other 2 like extra shipping or something...
edit:
HMMM!!!!! =]
I just thought of something! Is there anything wrong with mix matching tires? what if I got these proxie 4s(I'm kinda stuck with them already cuz I paid deposit), and then I get some BFG Potenza RE960AS Pole Position, thats probably not recommended huh? I am pretty sure they are gonna look at me weirdly for wanting to do this...just curious =]

yeah don't mix different models of tires. the traction is different for one reason. the other is that every tire that claims it's 215/45-17 they're not all the same diamter, some could be 0.2 inch different. which would affect handling, abs, etc.
so no stick with all one model of tire. i think the place should have ASKED you how many you wanted to buy, why should you have to pay because you didn't know? They're the tire people, they shouldn't assume anything. I think they should pay for the other tires to come in.. personally i think that's their mess up.
also.. congrats on the proxes4's hope ya like them, and make sure they mount them correctly. the yellow dot on the right side lines up with the valve stem. You'll see them easy for the right side of the car. Since these are directional tires, that right side will be on the inner part of the wheel on the left side of the car. Just have them find the yellow dot and real easy mark the other side of the sidewall at the same point. So they have a reference of where to mount it up with the valve stem for the left side tires.
These tires only go one way, and the direction is shown on the sidewall, these people should know better about that dot, don't let them try and put you off and not mount them that way because they're lazy!
the yellow dot is the light part of the tire, match it with the heaviest part (valve stem) and you get a much better balance. if you wanted to know why I was telling this.
also please make sure they use the right tire mounting lubricant! i've seen this so many times.. it's ridiculous! heres the link from toyo to help you understand more

please ignore the hunter gsp9700 reference, i wouldn't use it. It puts a pressure on the tires to find the forces that affect balance. What's funny is that when I contacted Hunter about it, they have sent me info on the specs of that machine, it puts more lbs of pressure on that tire than its rated for! more load on a tire than tire is rated for = damage to the tire. If this place does have a gsp9700 balancer by hunter, tell them you want a normal dynamic balance, no roadforce balance. you'll thank me!

dam man...thanks for the info, looks like theres way more stuff that I dont know...
kinda confused...the yellow dot is on right side for all tires basicly so you have to estimate and try a line yourself(or the tire man) on the left side to see? So if they mount and the yellow dot or line no longer matches with the valve I can "complain" and get them to fix it hopefully? ....do most tire places have chalk anyways?
when you say right tire lubracant, do you mean right "amount"? After reading that pdf I think thats probably what you meant. Just double checking though!!! pretty sleepy right now...
If they do normal dynamic balancing how does that look like while they are performing it? o.0
Man...I feel like my head is gonna explode. So worried about how this is gonna turn out now. I wonder if I made the right choice now of choosing the right tire shop...I guess now I gotta keep a close eye on the people changing my tires....
I found this place on yelp(dot)com with 5 star reviews and they have a cheap price so I went for it. But there is another place not too much farther away thats called "motor techniques" or something (cant remember), but it sounds more performance like, most likely charge more a price for mountin...maybe I should bring my tires there instead? They have 5 star reviews too, but the comments are different. There was some review from some car club like for porches and all their members go there. Its not just the average person going to change tires that might not know anything at all (like me).
