Now what to do with these things?

Ughh, I guess I just have to slap them on the Tc just in time for Autocross this year.

Thank you tire rack for having this amazing closeout sale.

Same here I got to cheat a bit since a guy in our autosports club told us there was a sale a few days before they had the prices up on the site, so I had mine ordered via phone a day before the sale went up :D $104 each for these was too hard to pass up. Had them within 3 days of ordering and they all four have date codes of 2108 which is pretty good.

Yeah I found out trough a member on honda-tech, but when I initially went online they were out in my size. But I did manage to get my friend in his Ms3 to buy a set in 225/40/18 for $320. I called them the next day and the guy said they were out of stock but they were having a huge shipment of them in come in the First week of March. So I placed the order on 2/26 and I received them on 3/6.

I have about 2/16 thread left on my 615's but I'm looking forward to a driving school event next weekend to finish off the tires.

Stockies here as well I bought a second set of them last year to use for my autox tires.

My 615's are on the wear bars from last season (2 test n tunes with about 30 runs each plus the other 9 events has that effect) so I am going straight to the 01Rs this season.

Yeah I've been looking for a decent price of some local stockies so I don't have to DD on the o1r's. I'm really excited to see how much better they perform than the 615's. The o1r's where THE auto X tire for the past 2 years but I hear that the new Star Specs have a better compound, which is nice since those are only ten dollars more a tire than the 615's.

Btw, what is your current brake setup? I'm in the market for new pads and have my heart pretty set on the hp pluses for the front however, I'd like to have pad with a really high friction coF for the rear, so its either the Porterfield R4-S's or the ebc greens.

same size as yours except mines are mounted on a 17x8.5 et32 wheel. i'm going into sts from sm. i know my wheels are illegal for sts but i figure the tire width matters the most and i'm pretty much adding unnecessary weight, lol. i'm coming from sm because i used to be turbocharged but i sold my kit a few months ago. looking at recent sts times, i'm actually looking to be taking podium finishes now rather than bottom of the pack in sm haha.

If you place at the top, be ready for someone to protest those wheels

Where I am, we have a very strong sts group topped by a co-driven 89 si hatch.. which is pretty much a spec car for sts

And I guess we should correct ourselves, sts is now st starting this year!

I am running Axxis Deluxe pads on mine right now. Brakes havent been much of an issue really, even with the fact that you rely heavilly on the brakes to rotate this car on the tighter slower sections. I may try the hp's when these go though. Initial bite is what I am concerned most with to get the weight transfered to the front quickly when I need it.

Oh wow, thats a nice wheel size you have there. I was thinking about buying wheels for the longest time but I ended up just wanting to refine the car as much as I could while keeping it looking stock. I run a 25mm spacer on the fronts and a 15mm in the rear to get rid of that mushroom effect. You'd be surprised how much that helped out during mid and corner entry.

The sts group for the events I run is very weak. We only had 10 competitors this year and I placed first. My times where god awful too.

I was thinking about going the Axxis route but I'm really trying to stay away from ceramic pads, I read allot of articles and none recommended ceramic for competition use, even though the hps' I have on are ceramic. Did you ever get rid of the brake feel our cars have? I don't really like how smooshie the pedal feels, I don't like allot of the feedback I get from it. SCCM did a full brake overhaul on their project Tc but they never said if it fixed the pedal feel.

But I know what you mean about getting the car to rotate, with the car being so front heavy its a chore, but the hotchkis rear sway helps out allot.

does having the 225 tires mounted on a 8.5 wide wheel actually give me an advantage over a 7.5 wide wheel? also, is there any changes in rules seeing that sts is now st? i haven't fully read the rules before as its so long, lol. as far as brakes, i'll finally be installing axxis deluxe pads with stainless steel brake lines. i've been using the stock pads for 60k miles already, haha.

I dont think you get much advantage from your wheel width, but the rules dont care about that. Basically,l if it doesnt say you CAN do something, then you cant. That is how most read them. Luckilly one of our local guys is on the SCCA committees, so I can run items by him. But I know for sure, for example, that if you go to a serious event like nationals, they would quickly protest you out for that wheel width. Of course, at nats, even if you drive very well, you will probably be behind about 20 civic hatches in standings, so no one would probably care. But if you did well enough and they knew about it, then they would protest it. Locally your club may or may not care as much and may let it slide, but you would need to ask them.

I dont think there are any rule changes that I know. They just changed some of the class designations. So a bunch of us will have a couple of extra "S" magnets lying around

As to the question about how they compare to the 615's , last year they did much better than them. And many of the winning street tires at nats were 01R's. They were pretty much the tire to have. This year, a new Potenza is coming out that is supposed to be better, and the star specs are also right up there with the 01R, so they are not THE tire to have this year, but should be up there in the top bunch of them and better than the 615's.

Well they are not meant to be a long lasting tire, and if you purchased a set having in mind a couple of years of use then you bought the wrong tire. I do hear they are supposed to last longer than a set of 615's though. I'll do roughly 12k on a set before they need replaced so if I can get at least 15k I'll be happy.

heh heh.. funny. And hopefully people know that extreme performance summer tires are not going to last super long. And my autox tires need to last one season.. I know they will never make two with the two test n tunes I usually make each season, so I will be buying a set each year no matter what

Damn! I can't believe they have this sale while I'm on spring break with no computer. Now they don't have anything in my size

I hope you guys enjoy the tires. My buddy has these on this 9-2X and he absolutely loves them. I am probably going to end up with the Star Specs when I get new rubber this spring (unless these are still on sale :D )
