Default Stagger

I need some help in this area. I'm trying to figure out why people are putting wider wheels and tires in the rear as of late. Are they trying to fool people into thinking its rear wheel drive, or make under steer worse? To my knowledge if anything shouldn't you go the other way and put wider tires on the front to combat under steer. See the Ptuning time attack car.

that's true... in my personal belief is that ppl are doing that because of looks not performance

yea i was wondering the same thing. staggered is for like RWD only. but thast my .02 cents

you can stagger for performance, it just seems that the new trend is to do it the wrong way. I was thinking like a 225 front and 215 rear might be a good setup for autox.

i did it for looks only and i don't regret it one bit. i wouldn't do it if you were using them for auto x or road racing but i had wheels for show, dd wheels and auto x wheels.

yea just for looks staggered on a fwd is pointless unless there on the fronts and you have 400000000hp

people do it for looks. the correct performance stagger would be smaller in the rear.

To futher add to the topic, having staggered wheels allows you to have a more flush fitment. The distance from the hub to the fender on the front/rear of a lot of cars are not the same. So if someone is looking to have a more 'flush' look, not just tucked in the front/tucked MORE in the rear (which looks just plain ugly), you would either buy spacers (spacers = FTL) or aquire a set of staggered wheels (SAFER than spacers/just looks better)

You dont need to run staggered wheels to be flush. You could just change the rear offsets to make the rear stick out more but running the same widths

But IMO thats still staggered, because the offsets are different, you're unable to rotate tires. Maybe it just means different widths?

you can still rotate, just requires to remove the tires from the wheels.

IMHO thats not staggered, staggered is a rear tire that is larger than the front

but i'd go staggered in something larger than 17's. no point in spending all that money to make the rears look dumb

That's an interesting idea... I wonder if anyone has actually tried this.
I was hoping you would know lol, you seem to be the autox guru around here. I'm getting ready for my first season this spring. It seems to make sense to me at least in theory.

I still don't see how it looks better to be wider in the rear. Everyone knows it's a front wheel drive car and that your making your car handle worse. Call me old school but I always though the point of modifying your car was to make it better not worse than when it left the factory. If that was the case you could just pay me $3,000 and I would smack your hood with a sledge hammer. It reminds me of that picture floating around here of the guy who put snow chains on his rear wheels to enhance traction, sad really
