so im lowered on Progress springs and tokico shocks and i just ordered my 18's. now, ive been looking for tires and i came across the BFG g- force sports. on discount tire they sell 215/45/17 for $118. for 225/40/18 theyre going for $140 and for 225/45/18 theyre $169 a pop. i dont want to spend $29 more each for the 45's tho im afraid my side wall would be too thin. i just scared of bending my rims and ruining my small wheel gap.
any wisdom?
on a side note, the reason i want the g force is because ive had good experience with them on my dads 05 acura TL.

dude 45 series on a 18 is waaayyyy too tall. u gonna look like you're 4 wheelin. 40 series is what everyone runs with on sl. i had 40 series on 18 a while back and it was cool. if i was to go with 18s again i probably would even run with 35 series so its closer in diameter to the stock size. it won't throw the speedo off that way.
First of all, BFG's are complete garbage.
Yeah you had them on your dads TL but that's a totally different car and probably
totally different rims. Don't choose tires because they are "cheap" in price.
You get what you pay for.
It also depends on what kind of rims you have. If they are cheapy kinds, I'd rather go with anything bigger than a 35 series tires since they are probably weak.
I run on 19 x 8.5 wheels and I must use 35 series tires to avoid having serious rubbing issues. I commute from the deeeeeeeeep Riverside area and the roads suck ___ out here. I've hit a few potholes and have yet to bend or blow a tire.
I'd recommend Toyo, Nitto, or Falken.

I had some BFG g-force KDW2s before I swapped to my Falken ZE912s. The KDW2s were a great tire IMO. I don't know much about the sports though as I haven't tried them but I do know that you can get the KDW2s from tirerack or discount tire for about what you're paying for the sports.
Here's my 2cents:
I have had very bad luck with BFGs-especially wet traction and wear patterns on other cars (never had them on my scion).
Big fan of Kumho, Hankooks, Falkens for the price these are all great tires. Conti's or most michelins I like too but are way too $$$$ unless I find them used.
40 series look good but they ride rough and if you are cornering hard on a bumpy surface with a lowered suspension they have less give and less grip because of it and most daily use roads aren't that smooth. (Same problem someone riding on their bumpstops has)
I have 215/45 17s now after having 215/35 18s and 205/40 17s (obviously on different wheels) and neither size worked well in daily conditions.
Just my experience

wow... 215/35/18 that must be THIN.
just an update, and thanks guys for ur advice. i decided to go with BFG (despite all your efforts to sway me towards kumhos and wut not). went to tire pros and got the BFG super sport a/s for 140 each and installed free, even with the TPMS switch over. the manager was nice to cuz i told him to use a torque wrench instead of the impact and he threw in a set of "tuner lug nuts" for free too. if anyone lives in the valley or something, the tire pros on devonshire and topanga gets my props. ill post pics 2morrow
thanks guys!
oh and i got 225/40/18. lol

it rides pretty well. a little bit bumpier but close to stock feeling. i rub just a little wen im going on the freeway and there are bumps. but going over speed bumps on surface streets its perfect.
