hey guyss i got a question. Does any of ur guya rims chip at all..i jus painted mine like 2 weeks ago and they are already chipping. Is there anything special you guys did to help it no chip. I used one of those brillo pads to scuff it up real good and then i cleaned it with alcohol. Is there anything else i should be doing. I also did put clear coat on my rims, i dnt know what else to do and i dont want them to chip??

 

And i used engine enamel high temperature paint.

 

09socaltc....Does ur paint chipp at alll..what kind of paint is ittt and did you wet sand those rims firstt? Im having chipping problems with mine

I kinda have the same problem as KFed, except it's only been 4 days on mine, and right now they're just easy to scratch. Should I just give it more time and wait and see what happens?

 

yeqha i had that problem too but after a few days it isnt easy to scratch but mines chipping. What kind of paint did you use?

 

Use a high quality paint. Engine enamel wasn't made to be sprayed on your rims. Also use a clear coat that will help seal the paint from chipping. Take your time doing it and you will have no problems

 

shooot when i had my rims green i must have used like a can of clear per wheel. lol you could curb them hoes and paint wouldnt ever chip!!

 

yah i did use clearr....and for the paint the engine enamel isnt good enouph?...what else shouldi use then?

Yes we get you used high temp engine paint. Think about it, how hot do your rims get? Why would you want paint specialized for heat? Buy the leading can of spray paint at your hardware store. Duplicolor or Rustoleum. Use your head

 

are those gold calipers tC_Crisis? The black looks good on yours

 

usually i use krylon paint that you can get at walmart.. has a great nozzle that prevents drip. Its not high heat or anything, but never chips. ive painted my rims black twice, gold, gunmetal, and teal. never any chips.

 

and green of course.

 

Multiple people have used engine enamel because it's "tougher" than standard paint, and is used as a substitute for wheel paint when they don't have your specific color.

KFed, right now the the only reasons I can come up with it to cause it to chip are that they weren't prepped properly. If my paint doesn't get any better by Tuesday/Wednesday I'm going to strip them completely and just polish. I'll post in this thread to see if I can find an answer to this.

 

The answer would be using the right paint.

 

So, then explain to me why using standard paint would be a better solution.

 

if anything when i used the engine enamel i think its slightly thinker but coated very well with two coats and i had no problems at all for the time being that i had them, i even used it over my black painted wheels that i sanded and not took off all the way just scuffed the surface
