Default Turanza EL400 the new stock tire for the tC?

I finally finished tying up the loose ends on my tC (reg and inspection), and one thing hit me. I've searched around and seen a few threads about the Potenza tires that came with the 17-inch stock wheels. My wheels are 17" stock, untouched from when I first test drove the car last week, and they're Bridgestone Turanza EL400 tires. Which begs the question: better or worse than the Potenza?

While I'm on tires, how important would snow tires be considering I'm in New England? And how much should I expect to drop? Any recommendations for sizes / models?

I dont like the Turanzas at all. I never drove on the Potenzas, but these things have minimal traction through canyon roads, I could drive my old Explorer just as fast, just the whole possibility of flipping thing kinda scared me xD

I know of 1 other person who has the Turanzas as well - I can't say how they perform though.

arbnpx - either go with a good ultra-high performance all-season tire or get separate steelies (15 or 16") with snows.

If you're going to change wheels to aftermarkets and are going to use the stock wheels for winter, you can get some 17" Bridgestone Blizzak's for about $125 each. Those are one of the best snow tires available in the right size.

If you're getting steelies, expect to pay about $100 for each tire, and then pay for the steelies themselves. I don't know the price of them exactly. When the time comes around, shop for winter tire/wheel combos on Tirerack.com.

Bridgestone are horrible tires, I had a set of 20" S-03 and they had cracking problems, you think at $300+ a tire they would be made better...Here is a thread on the Lexus forum about the junk tires...
