Default Why????

I'm just wondering why I consistently read that the general consensus of the stock Bridgestone tires on the tC are crap.

Mine handle extremely well on all surfaces ( even wet ), and have for the last 49000 miles.

So someone please tell me why they are getting the bad rap they appear to be getting? ( At least that I have seen. )

because every bad accident i've seen involving the tires losing grip on wet surfaces.... have been from the craptenzas.

yoks wore out at 7,000 miles i upgraded to:

Nankang NS II's
Two center circumferential grooves design can efficiently direct water away and enhance superior wet handling.
Computer-designed v-shaped drainage sub-grooves increase resistance to hydroplaning in high speed running on deep water.
Two-in-one pitches and variable-width tread design help to reduce pattern noise and promote a quieter comfort ride.
Shoulder edge sipes design promotes even and long treadwear.

these are way better than the yoks i had, and my freinds 'stones, hers are almost bald

What's funny is I am not a conservative driver by any means. I drive very aggressively as is I live in Atlanta.

And by the way there isn't a single tire that will handle well on wet surfaces if you don't know how to handle your car.

people complain too much about it because they expect TOO MUCH out of a 17k car.

people this days want drag radial grip, wet traction at a price of a big mac.

i have 20k+ on mine and i have no regrets.

i agree with tikbhoy. its not fair to expect super traction from a car that you spent less than 20Gs on. If you really want to feel something traction wise, get a dang car with AWD...there's nothing wrong with spending 40Gs on a japanese car...**cough*mitsubishi evo*cough cough*** (sarcasm)

I agree they arent quite as bad as some said ("Oh my god! I was going 10 miles per hour in an intersection and my car fishtailed out of controll! " ) and many seemed to blame the tires for every mistake they made, but they were pretty crappy. The subie guys whose cars came with them also thought they were crap. Everyone I know that bought them for any car thought they were crap (Especially for the rip off price they go for). I have them on my Saturn as well.. first time I had used them and dont like them there either. The only saving grace there is that they are taller, skinnier tires. I changed them on the tC at 35k to Avons. Cheaper and about 1000 times better, especially on the wet. I can take my "test" corner near my house faster in the pouring down rain than I could on dry pavement on the potenzas. I know I will never by a set of re92's

sadly one of the few people i personally know who had issues with the craptenzas experienced a similar thing.... about 10 mph around an onramp.... tires lost grip..... understeered... and he hit the curb hard... :?

no crazy fishtailing mind you.. but nonetheless... the damage was done.

if you got 50,000 miles out of the potenzas then you are not driving aggressivly. mine didnt even make it past 10,000 miles before the belts were showing. i live in an area that will expose you to just about every weather condition you can experience and these potenzas just sucked in everything. there is no grip in the dry, wet, or snow...they hydroplane very easy...and even the treadlife was dissappointing at best. and for what they cost new im surprised anyone would buy them. but hey, thats just an opinion from someone who really challenges tires...most people never will.

An on ramp I can see. I just remember some stories back during the first year of people just taking off from a stop light and "fishtailing out of control"... which, obviously would be impossible even with slicks on the car in a FWD :D

This is to the original poster: Why dont you just upgrade your tires and feel how much of a difference it will make. Im not saying their bad by no means. Just saying you should feel the difference.

^^ thats true right there.

After 49K, you don't know any better. If all we had were hyundais, an elantra would be considered a nice car. But once you own a ferrari, how could you come back down to an elantra. The bridgestones are the best that you know of. Put on some quality tires and you'll never look back. I guarantee you will be telling us..."Wow, I never knew how bad the bridgestones were, I thought that was just the way the car was"...

I have to agree that the traction and wear of the Yoks are terrible for the $$$. I'd never buy these. I just turned over 20K miles yesterday and they'll get me through the winter, but that's about it. I can tell the tires are not letting me anywhere near the car's limits. I look forward to my replacement set of tires. Off topic, but does anyone have suggestions for good tires at reasonable price?
