Default Am I the only one super disappointed by my HID kit

I just got an HIDExtra 35 watt 5000K HID kit. I popped it in really easily. I am disappointed by both the color and output of the kit. It's been raining pretty much since I put them in. With the wet pavement at night, it's almost like driving with the headlights off. They are much dimmer and less white than I was expecting. I got better light output in my 05 with Silverstar bulbs.

The HID's do have a nice sparkly brilliant look to them and the firing up is pretty cool but I really am disappointed by the color and brightness. I honestly think the stock bulbs gave off more light. Anyone have any insight or solutions? I have ordered 4500K bulbs from DDM tuning in hopes that this will be better. Should I try the 50 watt ballasts? Is there enough difference that it may solve my problem?

HID vets help!

I used to have 35w kit with 4.5k color bulb on another car and had the same problem. 4500k color should be the one with the best output and closest to stock but I didn't like that so now on mine I have a 35w kit still but with 6000k color. Maybe the difference in color makes it more visible. You can't go so high either because it'll go blueish and affects too. The 4500k you're getting you'll notice that they don't look as white as you'd expect and see them kinda yellow. You could always go with a 50/55w kit to be sure it'll light an airport but you could burn your wiring. Also you can always buy a good hid kit like Meng

I use to have 8k in my tC, but when it rained I couldn't see ____.

Good luck with whatever kit you get since they are a dime a dozen these days.

55W not necessary and can sometimes cause damage

I've ran every color of HIDs and must say 4300k are the best you are gonna get. I do agree that with rain the 4300k are still not equal with a good halogen. I suspect this is why most vehicles with factory HID have factory halogen auxiliary/driving lights. HiD light up signs and road markings perfectly, the road not so much. I threw some 3000k halogens in my fog lights and can see much better.

DDM + 4500/5k = perfect...if you actually like to see at night.

If you just want purple headlights (which appears to be the majority of people who buy HID's), then get whatever you'd like!

reading over the HIDextra threads they say that our harness can handle it. but they do offer a relay to that be powerd fromt he battary and not the harness. if i dont like them then i will just return them. but i was thinking about putting in some bright fogs aswell.

You do realize this this kit is designed to work with vehicles with a Canbus system right? Scion Doesn't use Canbus, so this has no effect on us Dodge Rams and some luxury vehicles are really the only ones who use canbus

hm...my 35w 6000k (as seen in the pictures) barely has any purple...mine is that blue/white look. maybe u got the wrong or bad bulbs? they do have a lifetime warranty and while there CS is not so great....it can get replaced rather successfully. just be patient

--
i can see fine at night without any problems, same in rainy weather...

--

the tC2 can handle the 55W ballast.....BUT its always better to be safe than sorry to run a relay since its a stronger wattage running through the stock wires. rather pay the extra few $ on a relay now then risk the chance of paying a lot of $$ replacing the wiring

i dont know all the details...but if Brandon is right. my guess is "to make money"

its a sellers trick...offer two very similar products, but say that one is super duper quality and charge 3x the amount of the other....there are people out there that will be like "its more expensive so it must be better"

I have about 3 sets of hids from hidextra sitting in my garage, wasn't happy with any of them, probably why they are listed at such a cheap price.

I'm gonna try scionpro's kit, theyre a good company
