Default Anyone installed a factory spoiler?

I've been looking to add a factory spoiler to my '13 tC and ebay has OEM units for about 350 shipped.

I'm worried about proper placement and drilling the decklid though.

Has anyone done their own OEM spoiler install? Sidenote: I'm wondering how much my dealer would charge me

I paid 444 installed from dealer. I mean, if they mess it up it's on them or if it even becomes damaged overtime can fall on them

Did that include the new beefier struts as well (suggested but not mandatory) to handle the extra weight of the spoiler?

Idk. I wanted spoiler and I have spoiler. I have 100k mile warranty so if struts don't last will be replaced.

Have a link to beefier struts?

What do you mean struts? Struts as suspension under car ? Or the pressure things that raise your hatch?

I bought an oem knockoff on eBay for 135 painted and shipped. Paint is perfect, install was easy. Included an anti-rust liquid, you line it up and there are adhesive markers that show where to drill. Get a stepped drill bit so it doesn't rip up your car and pull the interior on the trunk hatch. Took maybe an hour? Haven't had any issues and did not have to install any mounting tape or anything other than the 4 screws

I have always heard people using some really strong 3M all weather tape or something like that. that way you are not drilling holes into the trunk

I've read of those same people eventually losing their wing
Don't be that guy being responsible for another persons car because your spoiler fell off.

my local dealer wants 355 for the spoiler (high profile) + 120 for labor + tax so around 510! Pricey

The one on ebay is 350 shipped and includes template but the PDF they sent for install looks complicated!

I did 4 screws and 3M. No way I was going 3M only. And the spoiler is so light I don't see why I'd need newer struts. Paid 150 for the spoiler, painted and 65 to get it put on at a friends body shop. He even said 3M only was a bad idea.

Did you get the OEM spoiler for 150 or is it aftermarket?

Got this on sale a while back. Fit and finish are perfect. Looks to be 189 now for a painted one.

Disaster;

Can you give me any details on the install. How many holes to drill, what size etc. Did you have to use sealant around the holes as Toyota requires for their OEM wing?

Yea I used a stepped drill bit from harbor freight (or any local hardware store) so it didn't tear up my car, it's 4 holes, and it came with an anti rust gel. The interior of the hatch needs to be removed, then the wing comes with some adhesive templates. They mount to the wing and then you can center it and set the wing aside to drill your holes. Screw them in and your set!
