Default Anyone notice this when installing HIDs???

Today I received some Morimoto H11 bulbs and the
tabs on the bulbs are in different position.
The eBay bulbs I had before would go inside the projector
With the return wire facing down
The new Morimoto bulbs go in with the return wire facing up.
Anyone notice this while installing HIDs?

Probably because they're made correctly. As long as the ignitor is on the bottom, they're fine.

No the new bulbs fit with the return wire facing up.
I've installed a lot of HID bulbs on my previous cars and they all go in
with the return wire facing down.
This is weird. Im going to trim the tabs and make it fit how it should.

Why would you use eBay bulbs as a reference to quality bulbs that are actually focused and mounted correctly? My Morimotos are also H11 and they fit just fine. Changing the orientation of the bulb just because the wires are flipped doesn't make any sense.

Well the return wire position does make a difference after all!
Since the projected light on the road comes from the inside top of the projector bowl the position matters, return wire positioned on top will create a shadow directly in front of the headlight on the ground.
OEM bulbs have the return wire on the bottom so it won't affect the output at all, you may even see a higher concentration of light directly in front of the headlight. TRS fixed this problem with Morimoto aftermarket bulbs, XB35s have the wire on the bottom.

This is the man with the correct answers. I am waiting for the price to drop a bit on those XB35s

A video done by the guys at TRS:

I always thought that the shadow from my Morimoto's was normal because it is used in a "halogen projector" and not HID projector. I'm surprised they didn't design the original bulb to have the return wire facing down... doesn't seem like it would be that much more difficult. Either way, good to know.

The return wire is what I was referring to. I thought you meant the positive and negative wires coming out of the base. IIRC the return wires on my bulbs are on the bottom when locked into place and I have the standard 3Five bulbs.

Yes, Buy the XB35s and use them on any ballast with industry standard "AMP" connector.

To this day, I have never seen any shadow on the output of my projectors using DDM bulbs. Maybe they have the return wire on the bottom already? Maybe I'm clueless? Who knows...I haven't taken them out in forever.

You can probably see the shadow by turning the bulb while still in the headlight. Location and alignment of the Light Arc from the bulb is very important for proper output, so the return wire placed at the bottom won't interfere or block any light output. Be gentle with HID bulbs and clean with alcohol before installation and thing should be fine.

Did you ever get around to trimming the tabs? Did it still fit properly after?

Actually I did trim the locking tabs using a dremme and the bulb fits with the return wire facing at a 5 o clock position. This helped a lot to get rid of the hot spot...still I rather
have the XB35 bulbs because they are a perfect fit.
I will never switch bulb brands. I've been through a lot of generic brands before and even some name brand ones. TRS always has always the best quantity.

Would you be able to take a pic to show which tabs you cut, and how you cut them?? I'm interested in doing this too.
