Default Remove Paint from Calipers?

It's time for a refresh of wheels and brakes, it's been a long year and the paint I have now held up well I am just in need of something new. My question is how should I remove the paint from my calipers? I was thinking of removing them and the pads and soaking the calipers in brake fluid for awhile, people on other forums so that's the best bet.

Do I need special tools to get the pads on and off the calipers?
What other things should I look out for?
Obviously protection will be required, as that stuff gets nasty.

brake fluid or break cleaner? I believe you want to put it in brake cleaner

no special tools, just your basic sock set (or power tools, though it can be a tight spot) and some muscle
