Default ECU Reset after Cold Air Intake install?

Did a Search and found that many people did an ECU reset on all models besides the tC2.

My questions are if anyone here has done it after a CIA install (did your car feel more sluggish for a couple of weeks?) and will my ECU eventually learn if I don't reset it?

My Injen CIA is coming in tomorrow

disconnect the negative while installing it and i recommend having a second set of hands around its a pain to get the bumper off and if u have a sway bar its going to require some more work.

disconnect battery

let the car idle for 20 min then drive it under 3500 rpm for 30 miles that is a full drive cycle then you are good

Get the bumper off??? I got my Descendant CAI installed without taking off the bumper. Just took off the plastic piece under the bumper...

All CAI install's recommend that you take off the bumper to get the filter down there. But nobody actually does it. Just turn your wheel all the way to the side and take off the 3 plastic screws holding the fender well to the fender. Then just place the filter through there!

i never thought of doing it like that i just took my bumper off i guess if people have been doing it, it works lol. just disconnect the battery that is most important bc then you'll throw a code and it'll open a can of worms

Hmm thanks for the advice and instructions!

My friend, the mechanic, said I'll be fine if I don't reset the ECU... so I am going to attempt to install this myself... lol

When I installed my Takeda without resetting the ECU (disconnecting the battery), I got CEL and traction control lights.
Turned the car back off, disconnected the battery for a few mins, then reconnected and cranked. No CEL since.

Throwing a code doesnt open a can of anything . And it likely wont even throw a code. But resetting the ecu is the simplest part. You also dont have to drive under 3500 rpm after resetting it. Just pull the negative cable while you are doing the install, hook it back up and drive the car. Simple. It may idle like crap after you reset it, but after driving around for a bit it will clear up.

Took me 2 hours to install... Battery was disconnected so I could install it easier.

Is it normal for my RPM to be running higher? At least on the 5 min test run I did. about 200 rpm higher across the board until 60, haven't had a chance to go on the freeway yet.

With my Takeda I idle around 600 after the car is warm.

Rpm vs speed is a function of gearing. Unless you changed the gearing of the transmission then you are not running higher rpm at a given speed.

As far as idle, then it will be off, erratic, etc after a reset until you drive around a bit. After that it will learn and go back to normal. The intake is doing nothing for this car, it is not going to change your idle speed.
