Enginge Coolant Light
Hello,
I just bought a new 2014 Scion TC and I am not good with cars or anything so this may be a dumb question.
When I started my car up in the morning, the engine coolant light stayed on. I had to idle the car or start driving the car before it goes out.
Is this normal? I haven't had this with any other cars that I've owned before.
I checked the coolant level and it is filled up so there's no leak.
Thanks in advance.

The coolant light you're seeing is not an overheating indication light. Since we don't have coolant temp gauges in our dash cluster, we have that light you're seeing to let us know the coolant is not at operating temperature. Once the coolant reaches operating temperature, the light goes out. If your engine was overheating, the light would be red instead of green.
To put this in english, that light just means the engine is cold.

engine coolant light green means, your engine is cold..
engine coolant light red means, your engine is hot..
if there is no engine coolant light, your engine is at proper operating temperature.
i didn't like it at first, but now i appreciate the simplicity of the gauges. i see only what matters to me at the moment..
