Hey guys I was wondering I was going to change my oil and I got to thinking every other car I have owned I have used Moble 1 Full Synthetic. But they were all american made V6's. What do you guys use in your tC? can you tell a difference? thanks

 

Pretty sure the car requires synthetic. That's what it comes with, and that's what the dealer has put in it every time I take it in.

My xb2 loves mobil 1 0w-20.

 

I always run synthetic myself but you can run whatever you want in the tC. Toyota loves using 0W-20 which only exist in synthetic form and it bumps up their CAFE numbers too.

 

The is no such thing as a dino 0W-20 oil, only synthetic and semi-synthetic. Toyota brand oil is actually very good, mostly due to its high molybdenum content.

I think Toyota gets their oil from Mobil.

 

It varies. Some of it does, but not all. I think at one point some of it came from Eneos, and some of it still might. My last bottles were from Mobil IIRC.

 

purple royal synthetic 5w20 is the way to go...

 

0w20 is so thin...I dont like it in my car.. oh well. It's all about the film strength

 

With proper maintenance I haven't heard of good enough stats to pay for Royal Purple. I have tried it before, I just think synthetic oils are too good to validate the cost of it.

 

it requires syntehtic. and you only have to change it every 10k miles. toyota gives you 2 free oil changes so just take it to dealer. after the 20k its up to you which synthetic brand to go with.

I'm at the end of my Scion TC'11 complimentary oil change program, will have to switch to my own oil.
0W20 is used in newer Hondas/Toyotas.
what seems strange is 5K miles change interval for full synthetic oil. That true?
Also, recommendations on 0w20 brand, please.

The oil change interval is actually 10k miles/12 months, whichever comes first, at least in the USA. Toyota's house brand 0W-20 is what I would use.

That page shows 0W-20 for 2011-2012 tCs. I'm not sure what you're looking at.
