Default Transmission Lag Issues?

Hey guys. My neighbor just bought a tC 2 and he is claiming his transmission is acting weird on him. He claims that the tranny is lagging and sometimes struggling to shift. His tC is an auto w/ no mods of any kind. He's taken it to the dealership and they say the car is fine. Anyone else have any issues?

Check the "Issues" poll on the tC2 lounge. It's being discussed there. My fiancé has an auto and hers does that too, but I think it's normal. Unsure of why they're made to do this, but it seems like it's connected to the "Eco" setting thing. Idk though. Drove it from Missouri to Florida and back and It did it the whole way, but the mpg climbed up well past 30 so the acting funny wasn't causing poor mileage at all. Good luck on either convincing him to get used to Toyota's auto tranny, or finding a fix for what seems to be normal behavior on these!

The eco feature doesn't affect anything. It is simply a light that comes on to indicate that you are driving in a fuel efficient manner. Enabling or disabling this feature has absolutely no impact on driving characteristics.

And the auto is just slow in general. Kind of sloppy feeling. You get used to it.

I have an 07 and although they are different transmissions I have always felt that my automatic transmission was far from sporty and very slow, almost like it's confused. I've always thought it needed more than a 4 speed, but now they do have more gears they still have the same sluggish feeling... hmmm. That sucks.
Still a good car though.

i've had no problems and i know someone (on a personal level not a customer-worker level) that works at claremont toyota that has been driving these around with no problems either...and even raved how responsive the auto shifting was

is the dealership they took it to good/respected? since ur in Rancho...claremont isnt tooo bad. maybe if he wants to take it there i might be able to get the person i know to take a better look at it

I've been driving auto before scion and this one is def a bit off. Sometimes it waits too long to up or downshift and the other way around. no consistency at all. Car feels different at different times regardless of the fuel/road/weather

my friend drove it and also said it needs reprogramming, currently it is set to maximize MPG disregarding everything else. I'd be fine loosing 1-2 MPG and having a more responsive car

^^ What he said.
First dealer I went to, said there where no other manual trans in the state than the one they had with a ton of crap I dident want, and there was no way of getting anymore. I drove the auto thinking it was my only option, but hated it so much I left. It seems very confused and the constant down shifting everytime I took my foot off the gas, it was like riding in a car with someone who couldent drive a manual very well.
Luckly I went to a dealer that wasent just trying to sell me whatever cars they had in stock, and dealer traded exactly what I wanted from anouther state.
