Default Transmission whine?

I just got my 2011 scion tc with 43k miles. There's a considerable amount of transmission whine when accelerating or down shifting. Is this normal in these cars? With the clutch in the sound dissapears but at idle and while driving you can hear it.

It should be normal. These cars make a lot of strange noises since they're not so great quality.

My dads a mechanic and he said we could try changing the trans fluid. It shifts fine so I'm not too concerned. Just a tad bit noisy.

Thats so strange that some cars do it and others dont. It sounds like a supercharger honestly lol. I guess I just gotta turn up the radio.

like jayden007 said, As long as it shifts normally it should be fine. The only thing i hate about this TC is the door rattle and the screaming noisy stock Yokahama tires.

I just changed my oil to redline 70w/80 and it cut the sound down a little and it shifts a lot smoother. No pieces of metal were found in the oil either so I'm all smiles

It's the race-spec transmission that makes that noise. Perfectly normal

Im contemplating bringing it to a toyota dealer to have the trans looked at. I know manual transmissions can be loud but man like you guys said, it sounds like its supercharged. Its absurdly loud and Its under warranty so Its a why not thing.

The sound is made by the output shaft bearing. I had mine replaced on my '11 tc under warranty. that took care of the sound problem.

Is this a known problem on the 2011s?

Looks like im going to take it in. My fear is that theyll just do a temp fix just enough for it to reach 60k miles. Ive heard too many dealership stories.

Sounds good. There should be a tsb out for that sound. They took apart my transmission and replaced the bearing. Transmission whine?-uploadfromtaptalk1395323459479.jpg the bearing is the one directly on top.

How long did the repair take/did they give you a loaner?

Im glad there is a fix to the sound. I thought it was a little absurd to have a car with this much noise. My exhaust is pretty loud and I can clearly hear the trans over my exhaust and radio.
