What is the better go-fast mod?
What is the better mod, lightweight crank pulley or cai. I realize neither will do much but I thought it would be worth asking. Please speak out of experience. Another thing I was wondering is would it be better to get the two or get myself a green header from dezod as a first mod?
Do you think the intake/ pulley combo would equal out to the header? Headers are so expensive and I think it would be easier in time to afford the two rather than go all out and blow 500 bucks
Haha damnit, I knew you or someone would say that eventually. In that case I will do what I can afford, just trying to decide if I should wait til I can afford the headers or just splurge while I can. I think the dynos of the dezod headers and the pulley were about the same in gains but I may be wrong, hence the reason I want people with first hand experience to throw in their two cents. I know that an intake won't do much but I want the car to sound as nice as it looks and in my old BMW my intake did give me a little more power and significant throttle response, although it was just a cone filter and air box, not a cai.
Just looked at both their sites. The pulley gives 7 to 10 go and the headers are 8.something so on paper they shouldn't be much different. I've never had headers so another question I have is will it make the car sound significantly better with a stock exhaust like it would with just an intake?.... Or just disregard all of this rambling and help me with my origional question. Thanks guys.
A few things to consider regarding the NST CR-Lite Crank Pulley:
Peak WHP: from 142 to 147 and we saw a massive increase of +20 whp @ 4,100 rpm
Peak WTQ: from 135 to 151 and we saw a massive increase of +25 wtq @ 4,100 rpm

Much more info along with full charts, photos, and even a video here:

And tons of feedback from Scion Life members who are using this pulley on their tC:

Best of luck with all your projects!

Wow those are some awesome answers although I think I'm sold to the nst pulley and intake as I am aware that was mentioned, I'm not gonna get a whole lot of bang for my buck. I definitely don't see f/I in my near future concidering I have 5 more years on my loan. I'm just looking for a little something extra. Not a big fan of stock hah. The pulley for extra mid range sounds awesome, almost too good to be true. 20 hp at 4200 rpms whattttt?! Lol headers sound great but since I won't be purchasing any other exhaust components anytime soon I should probably just hold off until I can afford the whole setup. I mean, prices have to down eventually. Just look at tc1 parts online. Super cheap.
I would say pully would be your best bang for your buck bc it gives you just as much as any header & sometimes just as much as header+intake ... Reducing rotational weight. Is the best thing you can do to your car to free up hp ... I'd say a light weight pully+flywheel+ wheels combo would out perform any h/i/e combo ...plus If you do decide to go turbo you don't have to remove the light weight mods bc they will only compliment your turbo unlike h/i/e where you have to remove them for a manifold turbo back etc
Lol I know you only need one just used to saying headers a tune isn't going to do much on an n/a car maybe i/h/e pulley then a tune and you might notice a small gain but for the $ a tunes a waste of time on a car that's not boosted
My old xrs = pfc tune, used $700 = gained 13whp and 8wtq with supporting mods
My current focus svt = sct tune, $310 = gained 10whp and 8wtq with supporting mods
On both car everything from idle, mpgs, throttle response etc was improved. ive heard more neg thing about them than pos on other cars, maybe its dif for the tc2?
My old genesis coupe (yes it was turbod so it was really upping the boost but a/f and other thing were also tweaked = br stage 2 reflash, $500 = gained 98whp and 130wtq with supporting mods
Op asked for opinions those are mine. Go with pulleys if u like its ur car, but i always stay away from them

Go with pulleys if u like its ur car, but i always stay away from them[/QUOTE Pretty sure that's one of the purposes of a pulley is to improve throttle response since your moving something much lighter your wasting less power thus improveing mpg so everything you've "heard " about is not so accurate so like I said there's a tread just on pulleys for our cars proving that on modern cars like ours a light weight pulley if a great mod with lil to no side affects

Either way he asked for go -fast -mods not free- horsepower -up mods ... Go fast mods would include light weight pulley + wheels + flywheel & aero body parts & light weight materials like fiber glass or carbon fiber .... So called horsepower adder mods would be h/i/e which don't add hp they free up wasted or lost hp ... The only power mod you can do to a car is going force induced
& a tune would only be worth it if you had a fully bolt on n/a or f/i car running at stock tune
