Default Airbag Light w/ Aftermarket Seats Fix..

I AM NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR ANY DAMAGES OR INJURIES

Hello all,

I have a 2012 Scion tC with Aftermarket Seats and Seat Brackets and have been dealing with the Air Bag Light and Seat Belt Light for a couple of years now and have finally been able to get rid of them through the use of resistors and transplanting sensors.

Here is how I did it!!

First disconnect your battery and let the car rest for about 20 minutes just to ensure everything is deactivated and no damages will occur once you start unplugging sensitive items and plugging resistors in. These sensors aren't cheap so better safe than sorry!

Now we will tackle the driver side, remove your seat and disconnect the wiring underneath. You'll notice a yellow plug and this is where I put 2 4.7ohm 1/2 watt resistors (which equals 2.3 ohms). I lined them up and twisted the ends together and stuck one end into the plug attached to the floor and the other end into the other opening in the plug so the resistor is acting as the side airbag. Now on your stock seat follow the wiring and you'll unplug the seat position sensor which is held in by one bolt and it'll be magnetic. Then unbolt you seat belt buckle and take all of that wiring and plug it into the floor of the car. Put the magnetic sensor onto your seat bracket the location doesn't really matter i just put it next to the seat rail of the aftermarket seat and buckle in your seat belt like normal. The driver side should all be connected now.

Now for the passenger side, remove your stock seat and unplug all of the wiring connecting it to the car. You'll notice a lot more wiring but follow the wiring and you will notice four sensors at the four corners of your seat. Unplug those sensors and remove the harness from the stock seat. You should have a black box with two connectors on it, your seat belt wiring, wiring that connects to the floor of the car and wiring for all 4 sensors. Now try to finesse a 12mm wrench onto the center bolt of one of the sensors and remove it. Mine were difficult to remove and placing the closed end of the wrench on the nut and using another wrench combine the two ends of the wrench to create more leverage and they came off easy. This will allow you to pull the rails down and remove the last two bolts holding the sensors in. KEEP TRACK OF WHERE THE PLUGS GO AND WHICH SENSOR THEY BELONG TO. So before unplugging them mark them in some way so they don't get mixed up. Now with all 4 sensors removed bolt them onto your seat bracket and plug them all in. The yellow plug with be the same as the driver side with the resistors. Once everything is bolted up and all is plugged in your light should be off. I cant get the passenger airbag to turn on because the sensors are not mounted how they are supposed to be but at least now I know for sure my airbags will function and those lights are off.

Wrap the yellow plugs in electrical tape to hold the resistors in and to protect them. My harness looks different because I exposed all of the wires and rewrapped them to protect everything and then zip tied it to clean it up a little bit.

ANY QUESTIONS LEMME KNOW HERE ARE SOME PICTURES. I CAN GET MORE IF NEEDED.

1 OF 4 WEIGHT SENSORS. CENTER BOLT HOLDS THE RAILS IN. REMOVE FIRST THEN PULL DOWN TO REMOVE LAST 2.

WHAT MY WIRING LOOKS LIKE. MANAGED TO MOUNT SENSORS IN THEIR ORIGINAL POSITIONS BUT THEY DO NOT REGISTER WEIGHT.
