getting stereo in this weekend
I was wondering, and I'm sure you would have mentioned it if was an issue, but I'll ask anyway just to put myself at ease. You don't have any clearance issues with the motorized face do you? How flush is the unit the way you have it installed? I noticed that the unit has several mounting options as far as depth goes so I was just wondering what will be in store for me when I, fingers crossed, can finally afford to buy my own in August.
Also, could we maybe get a pic with the flash on or something so we can see the Metra dash kit with it, and maybe a side view for flushness? It seems like a nice dash kit, and I've used Metra kits in the past and prefer them to the crap that Scosche puts out. What's your issue with it? Thanks, in advance. I ask a lot of questions lol. I'm excited and impatient for my own 8400
hope these help it does stick out a little bit but its not a huge deal to me, the only issues i have had is i have to push a little harder than i like to put the face back on,I think it might be rubbing a little bit on the factory piece so moving the deck farther in more flush i think it would be more difficult to put the face on.
it sounds good i bought the sub amp setup on craigslist together so the subs are only running at 4 ohms so im only using half the amps power. I may get a 1 ohm stable amp to throw on there. If i did that it could use the whole car dynamat to keep the sound in and rattles down. The highs i think sound very good and balanced for me anyways im no professional but i think they did good on the factory speakers. I have experienced the touch screen not wanting to work a couple times which kind of has me worried, for me i push in the clutch and turn the car off and back on to reset it and it gets back to working. I just hope this is something that will get worse,it messed up when i was trying to answer a phone call it seems to happen if you dont touch it for awhile. I have a 4 hr drive sunday evening so i will see if it happens on that trip,i will probably watch a movie so i wont be touching it for a couple hours unless i get a phone call

ok my buddy bought the 4400 and after seeing it compared to my 8400 im even happier i bought the 8400, everything on the screen is so much crisper it looks so much better. I am not a electronic guru im just a average everyday user but it did look alot better to me and i also found it to be odd the 4400 does not have a sd card slot. I use it for music videos i get off youtube. I did purchase a cargo cover today for it and it is very cheaply made not like to older ones they used to have. I finally got the subs broke in and turned the amp up a little bit and holy cow that car rattles alot, on my sunroof if it is closed the wind deflector rattles and sounds like poo. My wiper blades even move around alot.
Curtis, Yea I looked at the 4400 in the store the other day and I was not impressed with the screen resolution at all, my pioneer premium head unit has better looking screens! So I'm just going to stick with it, besides everyone that has heard my system is amazed and have said not to change anything. I still want to upgrade the fronts to Hertz 3-way components to match the rears and would like to upgrade my 4 channel amp to a JL audio 300/4 to go with my 500/1. I did upgrade the sub woofer from a 10W3V2-4 to a 10W6 4 ohm (ported box). The W6 is an amazing sub, crystal clear, smooth, hits extremely hard. I had to turn my amp gain down a bit as it was too much for the car, I set the PAC Controller on the dash to center position and then set the gain on the sub to where I would like it for most music. This allows me to turn the PAC LC1 either up or down from the middle position depending on the music I'm listening to. One 10" 10W6 and a JL 500/1 amp is all you need for the car and it's really amazing.
Yep, I figured with those two subs you were going to have to dynamat everything like I did... Grueling project but the results are amazing trust me. Do it.

Interested in getting this unit, but had a few questions. I'm a noob at this stuff, so be gentle..
1) Do you have the ability to still use your steering wheel controls and factory Bluetooth?
2) How easy is the install? My setup will be with just the factory speakers..no sub or anything
3) Are there any additional wire harnesses or mounting brackets needed?

I have only been in and out of this stuff for 8-9 years it is pretty simple to hookup if you go to crutchfield you can put in your car and tell you all the stuff you need to install and use your steering wheel controls. The factory bluetooth im not sure of i didnt have factory bluetooth i used the one on the pioneer head unit. So yes you will need mounting brackets, wire harness, steering wheel control harness and match up your colors when installing it. I did not hook up steering wheel controls so im not sure how that is to hook up, dont forget to hook up remote wire blue for you factory amp. I will say this the touchscreen does lock up randomly i have manual so i just put in neutral shut it off and turn it back on. I say random because i just drove 4 hours watching a movie and it never locked up,then a few days later it locked up after 10 minutes reset then it was ok. If you want to watch movies or videos you will need a bypass also. Im sure other members will have good input on anything i missed so good luck let me know if i can help.

The oem Bluetooth in the 2012s is actually built in to the radio. For the 2011s it was a different component you had to buy. So when you change your radionics you will be losing the stock Bluetooth.
Thanks for the advice and crutchfield seems like a pretty awesome site. and what i was wondering about the Bluetooth was could this head unit utilize the factory mic in the headliner near the dome light...curtis6592used the mic on the head unit itself. im sure either mic will do, but i would kinda prefer to use the factory one
Sonic sells steering wheel control adapters, http://www.sonicelectronix.com/searc...+wheel+control
Crutchfield is a bit expensive.

Also, check wiring diagrams online in regards to the subs, since you have two you can wire them to 2ohm as long as the amp is a good one and runs stable at 2ohms you should be fine. I would not recommend 1ohm due to heat, unless you buy a high end expensive amp.
Do some research on the web though... Your probably better off just getting a different amp for the subs if it's not enough power @ 4ohms and just leaving them on 4 ohm.
Check for a JL 500/1. They go used in the $200 range and will provide all the power you need, they have a managed power supply that puts out the same RMS watts regardless of ohm load and voltage. Most amps will have less power at 4ohms and even drop more if the voltage on your car drops from 14.4 down into the 13's. Get a multimeter, turn your ac on high, turn on your headlights and then crank the stereo up about 1/2 to 3/4 and check the voltage.
