Angry Help Stereo problem

Ok just got the car a couple days ago. I have the base Pioneer stereo. The manual says that to adjust fader/balance/treble/bass that you have to use the multi selector to put it in the mode.

Well I can't seem to do this:

push it and turn - volume changes
push-hold in and turn - volume changes
hold each and every button one at a time and turn - volume changes
pull and turn -well you get it.

So how can I get it into the mode that will allow me to change these settings? any help appreciated- this is driving me crazy.

thanx

Anyone know whether we can change any of the equalizer settings or change bass and treble to our liking?
