Honestly I don't think they do much of anything other than minor support. You're right the stereo is supported by 2 bolts on each side so I wouldn't think they'd effect anything if you were to remove them.

So how exactly is your's sitting in place? I see two brackets at the top but is that it? What did you attach those to?

It has those two brackets that I wedged in between the thin top plastic piece that you can see in the first picture in post 6 and the bottom is just resting on the bottom tabs. It doesn't need back support for the bottom since the front of the head unit holds it in place without pressing any of the buttons. It fits perfectly for my tablet in fact the tablet slips into the two brackets since they bend a little with a sort of click like it was meant for it lol

Basically it's just as it looks lol

Lol lucky. Looks like mine will be some work but it would be epic if it could work. I just tethered my phone to my tablet and used my N7 as a gps. Loved it on the bigger screen lol. I need to make this work

You should definitely give it a try. It would be completely worth it if you get it working lol and if you do you should start a thread with the progress of it

How in the world did you remove the two bolts on the side of the stock deck. So little room to work with lol

Haha a socket extension works great for that. Or you can try pliers just make sure not to strip the bolts lol

Lol yea that's what I'll have to do. My dad has one but I won't be going to their place till the weekend. Don't really wanna spring for my own since I don't need it that badly lol. How did you lead the cables down behind the stereo?

I also need to find brackets similar to the ones you used. I can't seem to find anything to hold it in place

Its basically empty behind the head unit with the exception of cables and wires everywhere behind there. You have to remove the plastic pieces around the bottom of the climate controls (the cubby area) and the gear selector, which is just as easy as the dash, to grab the cables once you feed them through.

The brackets I got from walmart in the picture frame hanging tools area?? No idea what its called. Hardware section though haha

Lol yea I got some picture hanger hooks as well but haven't been able to put it all together. Also took my girlfriends dad's ratchet set so hopefully tomorrow I can put it all together. Did the sanding and cutting of the bezel today lol

Ran into another fairly serious issue. When I turn my car on while the Nexus is plugged in, I forgot that it takes me to a charging screen, as opposed to my homescreen. I can't boot into the OS from this screen without powering on like normal

EDIT: Woohoo after tinkering with the bootloader code in fastboot, I was able to make it so that it boots straight into Android when it receives power from a powered off state. Sweet! I can see the finish line!

Haha nice! Is that problem caused by rooting or is that the default setting for the N7 to boot to a charging screen? Also how is the fitment working out for you? You should get some pics up if you can! Sounds like it's looking great

Lol actually being rooted helped me in this case. The charging screen is default Nexus behavior so that was annoying. Fitment is ok it's so wide though that I need to figure out how to keep it from sliding out of the bottom of the bezel
