Default RS7 Remote start

UPDATE Click to go to update post or go down to post #9, got it to work today!

Installed a viper 5901 in my buddies rs7 today, got the remote start to work with the key in the car but tried 2 different remote start modules (dball & flcan) and can not get it to remote start with the key outside of the vehicle. But on a positive note I was able to retain the door handle disarm through the factory alarm using the dball which is pretty sweet.

I figured this would happen since there is no supporting firmware for a 2012 tc w/smart key. So we decided we will keep the dball and just wait for f/w to be released. I have been in contact with a rep at xpresskit and he said there is not currently a timeline for the f/w to be released. I will be emailing him after the holiday rush is over to update him on what I did.

Remote starting may be possible using a different type of module or using one that retains the key inside the car, you would have to remove the battery power from the remote and stick it inside the module to do so. My buddy doesn't want to do this since the keys are around 300-400 a pop.

If anyone out there has successfully installed/had installed a remote start out there please speak up and let me know what you did. I think I may be the first one to attempt on one of these so it would be nice to see if anyone else out there has gotten it to work.

Until then we will be (im)patiently waiting for the firmware.

tC keys are chipped

Plus he is talking about a RS 7 which uses a smart key system. Meaning that there is no physical key, only a key fob and a push to start.

OP, sorry I dont have anything else to add. I would think that the smart key system is the reason that your having the issue, hopefully a firmware update can fix it. Lastly... my coffee is cupped every morning...

So talked with another installer today, apparently my directech sheets did give me correct wires but not for the application in which I am needing. There are some in another location so after the holiday rush is over I am going to have him drop his car off again with me for me to try those wires instead. Hopefully they work. If they do I will let you guys know.

And firmware used was the Dball - TL4 from xpresskit. I have been in contact with xpresskit and they currently do not have a timeline for a release.

And although this was touched on, the rs7 use a smart key using 80bit encryption, the xb does not have an immobilizer in it that is why no module was needed.

I will update this thread as I make any progress on getting the remote start working.

BTW, I would like restate that the factory disarm using the handles is freakin badass and I wish I had it on my xB.

Going to be attempting the start with the alternate wire location next week. Will update thread after I finish. I am also installing axxess steering wheel controls which are not listed as tested on their site so I will note if that works as well.

Hopefully you can get it to work this time around i really dont want to wait for a firmware upgrade to roll out who knows how long that will take.

I'm pretty confident in this 2nd location for the wires working out, its from one of the guys at DEI so it should work, the module programmed so its a matter of getting the correct location for the ignition wiring I think.

Thats what happens when your a guinea pig you get to deal with all the crap of it not working lol.

It's alive!

Confirmed working, Viper 5901, Xpresskit DBALL using TL4 firmware. If you use the listed wiring from directechs it will not work though the wires must be grabbed at the psecu behind the glove box.

Also confirmed that the metra axxess aswc steering controls work, it is listed as unconfirmed on their website.

If anyone has questions let me know, as of right now I believe I am the only person to have successfully installed remote start on an RS7.

It was frustrating and fun, but I am glad to be done with it lol

As the saying goes.. pics or it didn't happen.
