Satelite Radio
Hey Guys I was wondering. I have a 2011 TC and I wanted to get the satelite radio installed in it. How many pieces do I have to buy to make it work with the stock head unit? And If any of you have done this how does it sound/ Work? Thanks
Bump/ New Question.... I was looking into buying the stock XM unit to go with the alpine radio does anyone know how many parts you have to buy? I was thinking it would be only one thing but TRD Sparks sells two things and it says one is required for the other.
TRD Sparks isn't messing with you. Satellite radio requires 3 things to work. A compatible head unit (which you have), a tuner, and an antenna. Why they don't just sell the antenna and tuner as a kit, I don't know, but you need both to make it work.
Ok Thanks Mighty Sparks didnt really explain what either part was that they sell so I was not sure what I would have been buying.
I ordered the Sirius Interface for Toyota/Lexus Vehicles SIR-TOY1 and the SIRIUS SCC1 Connect Universal Tuner from amazon.com, installed it today in my factory radio and work with no problems. It was a way cheaper way to go, and maintains the factory radio usage. All total this package cost me $141.63 and about 20 minutes to install.
I heard 2012 TC's are different. I have the factory Pioneer unit in my series 7.0.
I am looking to add XM also, but the dealer will only sell the unit with installation. It runs like 500 bucks!
Any help?

I have the Pioneer Premium Audio Headunit and wanted to get the XM as well, does anyone know if i can purchase the XM reciever from best buy and just buy the fit kit? What does the fit kit do? Just trying to keep the cost low yet have a fully functional XM radio capabilities through my headunit.

I wasn't exactly blown away by sound quality though. In my opinion, it sounds like low-bitrate MP3 music. The volume level is low as well. I cancelled my subscription and now strictly use my iPod.

Best buy wont have the direct connect kit to go on your factory stereo. You could get the aftermarket equivalent or get a portable dash mounted unit. How do I know? I am an installer for best buy.
Best option if you wish to retain the factory stereo is go with the factory option for xm, go with the scc1 and sirtoy for the sirius option. Only real difference being your sports lineups and howard stern. I would recommend going to the xm side of things as in the future sirius will be phased out and it will be primarily xm. If you plan to have sat for a long time that would be the smart move from someone who is on the install side of things.
Sound quality wise I don't know how you can say it sounds like low bitrate music.. it will be no worse than a download from iTunes as they use anywhere from 128kbps-384kbps. Depending on how you have your satellite hooked up (fm modulated interface or *shudders* the casette tape) you may experience major quality loss. FM modulation will cut of a chunk of your high and low frequency sounds and cassette tapes.. well there is a reason they are not around anymore.
And fyi that is not how a dealer would install your antenna. I would definately not do it that way. See if my buddy 1293RS7 will shoot you a pic of his antenna where I installed it. I avoid putting the antenna on a metal surface if at all possible without double sided tape to avoid scratches which WILL occur from moving around.
And I would not exactly hype up dealer installed equipment.. most of their "certified techs" can swap out and engine and fix many issues but have no idea about anything audio/video related and their solution is to either blame the equipment as faulty, blame the installer or just throw new parts at the car until the issue goes away. And don't get me started on their use of t-taps on alarm and remote start systems.
