I'm wondering at my sanity for even considering trying to swap out this LED, but here it goes. I want to swap the stock, orange LED that lights up the Trac Ctrl Button under the HVAC controls. Took the piece apart and found the light, which was a little discouraging. It's the smallest LED I've seen in the car by far. Below is a picture of the LED I'd need to swap with a PLCC-2 LED next to it for comparison.

Is that an actual orange LED, or is this another 'skinned' button that you can pull out the orange film or something?

 

It's actually orange. After pulling the button apart, I plugged the bare circuit board back in to verify the light source and color.

 

I do not envy you the task for which you have ahead of you, young sir.

I'd offer some advice, but I have no idea where to get those LEDs. Maybe send your photo to one of the suppliers you've already dealt with and ask them for a guess?

 

im going through the same thing!! i just posted the picture of the led asking if anyone knew what size it was lol. trying to switch all mine to green. but i think the smallest led i know. is security light led. and i believe thats a 8050? if im not mistaking

 

try DiodeDynamics or V-leds.

that would be a 0603 LED and they are a pain in the A**. you can order them from this link for $0.59 each. have fun.

It's actually 0805 LED, not 0603

yea.. too big to be a 0603.

Not yet. Been busy with other stuff. I'll need to buy a different LED no matter what size it is. The 0805new I have is red.
