Default Upgrading stock stereo...Need help

Hi all,

I want to replace my stock 2011 stereo with the 2012 HD/bluetooth model

I would like to have the same functionality that the 2012's have, so i guees Ill have to get a new map light housing for the microphone to mount into.

How do you remove the maplight housing. and how is the mic routed from the HU on the 2012's?

I'm not sure how the mic is wired from the 2012 HU but I can almost promise you it will be more trouble than its worth. If you really want hands free phone communication I would recommend going with an after market HU. Pioneer AVIC x940bt is a good one, I used one for about 8 months. No complaints. And yes it has Bluetooth support (both handsfree talking and music playing), iPod hookup, USB compatibility, has a disc reader (CD and DVD). Install is straightforward if you're familiar with car stereo

Oh and something else I forgot, going aftermarket will be cheaper too. Unless you find a 2012/2013 in a pick and pull you're going to be paying about 1.5 if not 2 times as much for the scion head unit and mic map light assy

Thanks, but I was able to get the 2012 HD stock unit from a guy on the gen 2 facebook page for 70$ + shipping. I know the aftermarket units are cheaper with more features, but they also come with their difficulties when it comes to integration of steering wheel controls, routing BT mics, and harness adapters. The stock units, apart from the mic piece are plug n play in all the gen 2 tc's.

I figured out how to remove the map light housing, and it was simple, you just pull straight down and the clips pop out, routing the wiring for the amplified mic, would be a piece of cake but I dont want to spend the money so I'm going to just use the other mic from my blulogic system....yes they are the same connector, so hopefully everything works out....I should recieve the radio in the mail today.

Oh well that's good. Good luck on the wiring of the mic, hopefully it won't be too difficult. It shouldn't be if you get a wiring diagram for the HU

Not sure what complications there are with wiring and steering wheel integration. I am running a Kenwood unit, wiring was straight forward along with programing the steering wheel controls. Longest part for me was to route the mic and GPS receiver, but that is because I wanted things to look as factory as possible, I even changed the start up logo on the HU to display the Scion logo.
