Agent 99 (Retirement)
I can do a general DIY for installing DRLs, but for now, the Audi style is still a work in progress. I love the strips I'm using, but need a better way to mount them behind the headlamps. They are top mount LEDs rather than side mount and I have had some issues with them staying in place
Watch events at the SCCA Nationals and they lift FRONT tires if not 2-wheel. Its nuts to see.
Nice shots though. Looks like you had a lot of loading. Remember, smooth is fast. Come in fast, mash the brakes, let off, and steer. As you round the apex, feather in and power out as you straighten the car out. You'll pick up time in the next event. The first one is always an eye opener!
Looks like you had a blast! Glad another tC2 member here is hooked on enjoying their car!

To all 25 of my loyal supporters and likers (well, 24 really...), I want to thank you for all you've done. You've made my candidacy a special, if short, one. I will always remember the good times, the hard work, the laughs ... and the tears. [sniffle] Without you, this candidacy for the prestigious "2nd Generation Scion tC Facebook Page Of Choice" would have never been what it was. However, in every contest, only one can emerge the victor and this time it is Ted and his yellow tC2. But don't let our current defeat discourage you, for Ted will be a good Facebook Page admin and he is dedicated to furthering our cause. Additionally, I vow to continue the fight, ensure your interests are kept in the forefront of Ted's mind while he administers his Facebook page.
Thank you again and rest assured, I will be in contact with Ted to discuss merging our agendas.
God bless you, God bless our soldiers, and GOD BLESS AMERICA!

Sweet I was just made VP for the old regime.
Now to twist the wrist... implant my secret clan of ford enthusiasts (65 mustang FTW) and warp the young FB page to my OWN CREATION!! MUAAHAHAHAHAHA
*cough*
Back on topic... how much longer before you buy the killer glass in red for your scheme?

'65 Ford Mustang is good. '09 Ford Escape is very, VERY bad.
And I won't be modding my car for a little while. At least not until I find a job. I'm still gonna AutoX, but need to hold on to savings just in case.

Keep plugging away at it. Economy sucks. <--- was unemployed for 1.5 years, it SUCKS.
...and the 65 mustangs will be limited to the 289's only. In rust orange only. With only 3 working gears... and Escapes? Naah son, only the Festivas. Maybe a Pinto or two.

Soooo.... I have some updates. Some new, some things I did a bit back and forgot to post. I will post pictures later today when I feel a little better (I hate colds!)
Needle Color Change This one is surprisingly easy.
1. When you pull off the needles, look on the back and you'll see 2 nubs. Remove those and the needle comes apart. I removed them by using a set of tweezers to squish the plastic nubs. (I didn't want to use a grinder in such a small space) As you squish the nubs, use a small, flat-head screwdriver to gently pry the back piece from the front. Eventually they'll come apart.
2. Use some nail polish remover to get the orange paint off. Don't go crazy with it because it will fog up the needle.
3. Use nail polish to find the color you want. I tried purple, gold, white and no paint.
A. Purple was too dark, but had potential for those of you doing a purple theme.
B. Gold was awesome and I would definitely suggest it for those of you doing gold.
C. White was what I went with (boring, but matched)
D. No paint made the needle look gray and too dark.
4. Re-assembly is a breeze. Just pushing the needles back together held them in place without issue, but you can use superglue if you want them permanently back together. One note, without the glue, the front of the needle will come of without the back when you pull it from the cluster. Doesn't hurt anything though.
AutoX Race Day Updates
The Region Director changed the classes up a bit, adding us newbies to the novice category. While it didn't change my overall rankings, I was 5th of 7 in class (PAX adjusted).
One other note, the suped up Tiburon with 380+ whp some of you asked about had a best raw time of 53.884 (remember my best raw time was 54.664). Just goes to show handling is king in AutoX, not power.
Daytime Running Lights
Okay, so I know this is turning into a bit of a saga, but I have new DRLs on my car. The last iteration was very close. The LEDs looked great and were very bright, but looked like crap up close. They were too tall and the hood pushed on the strip, and with the heat, caused the covering to peel and crack.
So my new DRLs are actually under the headlights. They are 18" long (above the headlight you only get 12" to work with) and look just as good as above the headlight. What I did was I went with 4 side-emitting strips instead of 2 front-emitting and double stacked, 2 on each side. The lights are right by each other, so unless you get up really close and look, the 2 LEDs look like one big one. Also, because they're under the headlight, they are more hidden when they are off. Your eyes are attracted to the little white dots between the hood and headlight when the car is parked. Overall, very happy with the new setup. The question is now, will they hold up?
Now that I have all these leftover LED strips, I guess I need to start copying Scion202's ideas that I like.

You need to swap the LEDs AND the needle paint. Stock LEDs are orange and the needles have orange paint.
This is what the dash looks like with white LEDs under the unchanged needles. If you swap the LEDs and go with clear, your needles will look gray (there is a black piece under the clear part you paint that makes it look gray). You need to do both to get genuinely white needles. And use nail polish to paint the needles.

New Daytime Running Lights
All but the lights but the 3 end ones on each side are double stacked. Notice how it's a bright, sunny day and you can still see the lights.

Someone could mistake one for the other...

I really want to say how much I like it. ....but the egg yolk!
...though it does make me want to put one small LED strip under my OEM fogs - Benz-style. *ponder*
I'm being lazy and don't want to go back through the install bits, but are your DRLs on a switch, or wired into the headlights or something? They stay on with your normal lights or..?

Stacked on top of eachother you say? This, is a very good idea Sir. I may go with stagger stacked so it looks like there is even MOAR lights! You may not have the dough to throughout for mods like some of these cats, but i'll be damned if you don't come up with some >or= to amazing ideas! Guess not all AMMO guys are dumb after all. : )
Haha! We ain't so good at the readin and the writin but we isn't stupid!
And, Scratch, it's tied in through my accessory fuse so they're on anytime the car is on
