really takes away the sting of the announcement (i hated the 2g) but with these very doable mods it really is attractive

My whole goal was to build something anyone could build. Glad some are seeing it that way.

 

i'm glad you kept it classy. Its so easy with honda/toyota to just go way overboard and lose what makes the cars attractive in the first place.

everything you've done seems to have boosted what was on the car that just needed a little nudge. it just proves you can have a fun to drive car (for cheap) and not having to drop 4k in power mods. I think people start modding and just get the bug and keep going and before you know it you you are in the hole for a quarter the car is worth.

Helps to work for the company I suppose. Office is damn close to me, drive past it on my way to work. Do you install everything at the office or do you have your own shop?

 

All TRD parts are installed at Toyota head office for validation purposes.

All others are installed by myself off-site.

how do the trd springs feel on the track?

 

Maybe you should ask the Porsche Targa4, the Honda S2000 on r-comps, the Subaru Legacy GT B4, and the Subaru STI (almost caught him lol) who felt the wrath of the little car that could!

But seriously, they are F*$%$( insane on the track. Absolutely loved them. The transitions are flawless and the balance is superb! Couldn't live without them after the event! But the winners were really the brakes. After 18 straight laps (almost 30min of straight lapping) and pushing them deeper and deeper into the braking zones (with still more than I'd dare test), they continued stopping the big wheels/tires with ease and without fade. Another amazing TRD part!

 

^damn. i wish one person had the trd's, tein's, eibach's and a track to test them. So hard to decide between springs. function>form! Right now i'm wavering between trd's and sportlines

 

The TRD's all the way my man! Engineered by suspension guru's at TRD and the top suspension company in the industry! Track tested!

 

haha, am i getting biased answers for asking a scion employee? there are always those rumors floating around that trd's are rebranded eibachs.

 

I can honestly tell you that there is nothing rebranded about TRD product. While they may be manufactured at the location of many aftermarket parts (you'd be surprised how many aftermarket performance shops have OE divisions), they are all engineered by Toyota/TRD engineers and must follow completely different guidelines to that of what is afforded by the aftermarket. They are very tough tests to follow. Spring rates, lengths, number of coils, design, finish, material, etc, etc, are all tested and designed to meet TRD and Toyota quality and performance standards. After that, they go through track testing before they are sold to the masses.

There is a lot more behind these springs than you'd expect. I would put any OE performance suspension up against any aftermarket lowering spring any day of the week.

I'm not a biased guy. Heck, I have many Descendant parts, TWM parts, and aftermarket wheels as well. While I have a lot of TRD stuff, I have had the choice of what goes on and what doesn't. And trust me, there has been a lot of out of pocket on this build! This wasn't a freebie build by Scion, so don't think this is an advertisement!

I chose what you see based on past suspension experiences...and I've had a lot of suspension systems...Just to name a few (and clear the chance of bias), I have owned the following suspension pieces:

- Eibach Prokit
- Eibach Sportline
- Tein S-Tech
- H&R Sport
- H&R Race
- LEDA Custom Race Coilovers with Ground Control camber/castor plates (modified with commercial grade teflon bearings)
- Koni Yellow and Red Shocks/Struts
- Honda Factory Performance suspension system (designed by Showa)

Additionally, I have tested and worked with KW Variant 1 through 3 systems, Motons, and a variety of your generic "off-the-shelf" suspension systems.

I've been down the road of suspension, and my favourites were always the HFP suspension and what I'm riding on now. And that's my unbiased review.

 

thank you very much. i see you as a reliable resource and it is pretty convincing, i must say.. more thinking to do.. and one worry about getting springs I had were getting stuck in snow in the winter, but seeing as how you're in canada, I guess that is proof enough

I'll be happy when your lowered, no matter what you end up buying. I think you'd love the TRD springs, but then again, everyone likes something different. My suggestion is to swing by your local dealer and demand a drive in a tC with the springs installed. From there you'll have some help making your decision!

And yes, they've been track tested and winter tested...all results are WIN!

Always remember, while your ride height maybe diminished, the only thing that touches the ground is your tire. Michelin said it best..."because so much is riding on your tires."
