So I have a 2012 Scion tC, and the check engine light came on. Code was P0453. Next thing you know, my wife started up the car and smelled gas. Then she sees a pool of gas under the back driver's side tire. I jacked the car up to take a look, and I found a chewed up fitting. She started the car, and sure enough, it was spraying gas out of a hole in the fitting.
I'm wondering what this fitting is called, whether it is a diy project for a not-too-skilled guy, and if not, what it might cost to get it replaced. I've attached pictures for clarity.
If it's spewing out when the vehicle is on, it will be a hose after the fuel pump, just not sure which it is on that diagram. If you yank up on the rear seat it will pop out and give access to a cover that hides the fuel pump. I would imagine the line you'll want to replace is the one coming off the fuel pump. Should be as simple as grabbing a new one and yanking the old one off and popping the new one on, but fuel line fittings can be fishy, and need to make sure you're careful since it is flammable af.
So that plastic fitting (with the blue "clip") attaches to the plastic "nub" coming out of the rubber line (the left side on the picture), correct? What about the other side? Is that plastic fitting part of that fuel line, or does it connect to it too? I guess what I am asking is do I need to replace only that plastic fitting, do I need to replace the whole fuel line from that rubber line (to the left of the plastic fitting) back to the fuel pump, or do I need to replace the entire fuel line that includes that plastic fitting?
Bummer, I was hoping it would be able to be accessed from under the rear seat.
I've not dropped a tank before but it's something I, personally, would try to handle myself. Might not need to fully come out, just enough to replace that fitting.
