Man I have a 72 gran Torino that gets maybe 12mpg on a good day. Try making that your daily driver.

The Russiankid's right btw. Altitude, air density and tire pressure all factor in to gas mileage.

The type of tires makes a difference too. Knobby snow tires have more rolling resistance.
That sucks your mpg is so low. I'm averaging 32 mpg on my commute, but 80% of it is 50-65 mph in 6th. But I notice city driving kills my mpg.
The four biggest things to get your insurance rates down are: turn 25, have no accidents, get married, and switch to a small SUV or minivan.

The sportiest thing on these insurance lists is a Honda Fit, Honda Accord, or Subaru Outback... blah. The Accord and Subie have pottential but they are both more expensive then a tC and their mileage is about the same.

Best bet is to get the Fit, put on a hood scoop, rear wing, body kit, and new wheels. You'd be rockin the mgp, low insurance rates, and look like your ready to drift. ;)

I have the Xi3 tires as well, and I rev up to about 3000 rpm's before shifting, but then cruise around 1500-1800 rpm. I'm in Alberta and I get about 26mpg in the winter doing almost city driving exclusively.

The cost:difference would be years to offset gas/insurance that I'd lose by trading.

Dang, I got a chill just looking at those pics...

According to Pure-gas.org: "Alaska, Nova Scotia: all stations dispense ethanol-free gasoline." You're lucky, I'm stuck with E10. So theoretically you should be getting better mileage then most of the U.S. But with extra cold temps the heater is working overtime, therefore cutting into any gains you'd get with pure gasoline.

If you aren't driving, car will not get to operational temp. Can leave it idling 20 mins and still have green icon on. When you drive, it finally warms up.

I've been in -65 before lol.

Your gas mileage is def because of your climate man good luck getting good gas anywhere if it were me I'd prob try and get ahold of a Canadian block heater that would def help you out I doubt any vehicle you get will get much better

I will give it a chance for this summer, As long as I get atleast 26mpg average I'd be happy. We will see though. I understand it burns extra fuel to get the engine to operating temp yes? That could be it since its always cold, even 40degrees is cold for a car I think? Thats the highest its been in like 5 months.

Try hotter plugs and wires. And maybe see about a block heater. Other than that I would say the penguin needs to migrate south.

Do you drive like a maniac? When I drive my tC like a madman, I get around 20-22mpg. But if I drive normally I can get up to 30, easily.

Should invest in some high end sleds and a good breed of Alaskan huskies.
