Great Pictures of Gen2 tCs
how much u spend after the fact of buying the car is irrelevant....but isn't that what its all about? moding a car to the fullest...time, money, passion, everything...all things 0 has done
while on the other hand i constantly see people buy a subie or an evo out the door and think they have a nice fixed up ride....but its only "fixed up" cause subaru/mitsubishi build it that way. not because the buyer actually did any mods. its like taking the easy way out because one's pockets are deeper at the initial purchase
its not how much you spend buying the car, but how much you do with your car after

I know plenty of people who go out and buy a Scooby/ Evo AFTER building a tC. Theres no denying that building a car is fun, but potential plateau's after a while. So it takes you 32k to build a car that will match a Scooby, but yet is still a FWD. Theres also fun in building a Scooby, turning that 305hp into something over 500hp. People rarely if ever keep their sti/ evo stock. They just generate an even more expensive hobby. Think about it like when you upgraded your tricycle for a bicycle. You modded the hell out of that tricycle and were keeping up with the big kids. Then the big kids dropped in a bigger turbo, and you couldn't pedal any faster.
Don't get me wrong, I'll keep buying parts and keep modding. I've made an excel sheet of how much my car will cost when I'm done. I do plan to upgrade to something with more potential in the future though. As a college student, I'm only limited by funds.

One thing you're missing: @32k I made a clear 100 whp over an STi. A brand new STi is 37k and stock makes 260ish whp on the Mustang dynamometer that I go to. And, after the engine build is complete, the tC2's engine can handle 700 whp with bigger injectors and race fuel. Which will put my total investment including the car at around 40k. I'm willing to bet you can't invest 3k into an STi and make 700 awhp.
AWD or not, a race isn't over after 60ft.

its irrelevant because you're not trying to match any car....
the point isnt to make a tC into a subbie/evo. the point is moding a car. if you read my comments then u can see that i'm talking about those people that buy a soopped up car and then are done with it and think they are all boss....when they didn't do anything but show i have X amount of money to buy this nice car
there are people that buy a subbie/evo AND mod it more...and to them I'm cool with because they are like us moding tC owners.
so like i said, it matters what you do with the car afterwards, and NOT just what car you bought in the first place
example....a Ferrari is a fixed up car as-is...the owner can boast all he wants about having a nice fast car, but can he legitimately say "I made this car as awesome as it is now" ? no they can not. all he can say is "i bought an awesome car"
build vs. bought

I've been watching a lot of Top Gear lately and it goes to show that a car generating more hp isn't necessarily going to achieve a faster lap time. The 5.0 mustangs generating insane amounts of hp would probably flip on the straightaway. lol.
I really like your build, and I plan to buy a lot of the same components you did, just curious as to which direction you are going to take with the car.

I thought you were bashing on people who buy Sti's because they can. I have yet to meet someone who owns an sti that wants to keep it stock. We're all modders, some just have more expensive platforms. Boxer engines can be a pain to work on. And Scooby upgrades don't come cheap.
but i have seen a lot of people (with any car really) that stick a fart can to their subbie/evo or other ghetto mods and think they are all that....and to those I
Straight line for right now. The LSD, wheels and tires are probably the only things I have on there that would help with lap times. I've only been lapping once in the car, and that was pre-boost. For a suspension work, I'm waiting until I can get the car running and on the track before making a decision on what parts to acquire. Until I know how I drive a course with the power increase, I'm probably going to focus on mounts, slicks for a decent time.
KJ's right, though. I can't really compare cars as I am not trying to match or emulate any car in particular. Apples to oranges, really. I just want something quick, and I add more if I want it quicker.
My comment earlier was in reference to "32k can build something to match a Scooby". I used to own a 2005 STi and I'm fairly confident that given the same driver and track, with my tC2 and a stock STi, my car could overtake the STi in overall lap time. Reasons: +100 whp, LSD Clutch-Type(not better but just has one much like the STi having two: front helical, rear torsen), lighter and wider wheel/tire combination, and it's about 150 lbs. lighter.
The AWD is tough to beat, but doesn't make the car invincible on the track. If you watched the track comparison of the Focus ST vs. the EvoX, the EvoX won by no more than a couple secs. The ST is rated at 30 hp less, and is FWD.
Back on topic: Great pics everyone! I hope to add to this thread once the build is complete. Sadly, I won't have anymore money for a professional photo shoot
