Default Hi from Toronto! New 2013 TC Owner, HID installation Issues

Hey guys!

I recently picked up my new 2013 Scion TC on Monday, and so far I am loving it!

Its a 6MT White TC2 with the TRD Exhaust and TRD Quickshift.
The exhaust sounds amazing at in the 3-4k RPM range, never had a chance to feel the normal shift throws on the stock transmission but it feels great with the quick shift.

Luckily, on the same day that I picked up my car, the MengMotorsports HID's I ordered came in. They're H11 6000k spec-ed but I've had some issues with the installation.

The light bulbs will fit into the socket but were just impossible to rotate to lock them in. Managed to get the left HID installed but the right one would just not rotate no matter what. The teeth on the HID's are plastic and thicker than the thin metal ones on the stock lights, perhaps that's the issue?

Has anyone else had this issue? Any advice is more than welcomed.

I'll be posting more pics as work progresses, hope to meet all the folks here. Cheers!

Try switching the bulbs. Move the one you got installed into the other headlight and see if it goes in. If it does it sounds like something is wrong with the mounting teeth...thingy...on the other bulb. At that point I would contact Meng and see if they can send you a replacement or have some other solution.

But yeah..first I would just try swapping from side to side.

They're cheap HID bulbs, the plastic is mass produced with little quality control. Some plastics are larger than other, and some are smaller. Shave a tiny bit off of the plastic tabs, and make sure you're pressing towards the headlight when you're installing them. What usually happens is the plastic is too thick for the socket and doesn't want to turn. It's cheap plastic, nothing some controlled force won't fix.

Make sure you have the red O-ring completely seated on the bulb's base too. My DDM kit's bulbs were also very tough to get in. They'll go if you use enough muscle.

BTW, welcome! I spent a few days in Toronto earlier this month for a house music festival. Gorgeous city!!!

If I can see correctly in your picture of the HID bulb, you did not take off the plastic o-ring that sits between the base and the red gasket. Remove that ring, then seat the red gasket into the little crevice that is there to hold the gasket. That plastic ring is what is preventing you from getting the bulb in far enough to latch on.

Glad to hear you had a positive experience here! Unfortunately Scions aren't as popular up here as they are in the States. I've used every muscle in my house hold and not one could manage it haha. Felt like a line up to pull out excalibur.

Thanks for that catch, I'll def try that tomorrow, hope that's the issue.

Thanks to everyone else that replied too
If taking the plastic ring off doesn't do it I'll try shaving a bit off the plastic teeth as ProjectTC2 mentioned. If all fails... ask Meng for another set.

Taking that ring off should definitely do the trick. I missed that in your picture because the ring that came on my kit was white. Give it a go!

And yeah I maybe saw one Scion the whole time I was up there. Everyone in downtown Toronto was too busy driving brand new Audi's and bimmers.

DO NOT remove the red/orange ring!! That's what makes the seal and keeps everything out of the headlight. If you remove it, then it could fog up and dirt and such could get in there

We're not saying to remove the o-ring that seals the bulb, there is a shipment spacer that is on the base of the bulb that needs to be removed. It sits between the red o-ring and the base.

Have to be careful with man power on plastics.

Oh ok. I would never remove the seal, cleaning out a projector is more PIA than a regular free form.

Sorry for the double post!

I took out the plastic O-ring and the HID went in easily. Driving at night is a beautiful sight now with both HIDs installed.

(Yes I'm aware of needing to adjust the squirrel header or w.e it's called) Took it for a test drove though and no one high beamed back which is a good sign.

As for the request of the pics of first and second gear.

Hope that helps and thanks for all the advice guys.
Hoping to get tints within the coming weeks, the options available is either 15% or 30% Pinnacles, would the 15% be too dark and be a cop magnet?

I have 15%. It looks good but dark as hell.

Glad you got the bulbs to work!

Hi! Welcome to the forum..

I went with 23% all around and still good up to now. Looks amazing too. Not too dark and not too light. Just right..
