Looking for an exhaust
I'm looking for an after market exhaust system, and found a few that I like. Due to laws the exhaust can't be overly loud and I don't want to break the bank on it. I was looking to replace the entire exhaust system (i.e. the header to the tail pipe), I've seen the ones on Megan Racing and think they look cool and sound beautiful. Any other recomendations?
The exhaust on the tC2 rasps almost immediately if you do the wrong setup. Also on this platform if you do any header but the Dezod green (discontinued) it will rasp terribly AND give a check engine light. You can tune out the CEL with the OVTune software but if your car rasps the only way to fix it is to add as many resonators as possible. IMO the Dezod green is the only header worth getting for this car (if you can find one used), else skip it because the check engine light + small amount of hp gained + awful noise isn't worth it. The best idea that would not murder your ear drums would be to just do an axleback or catback if the setup has 2 resonators - changing the midpipe on this car can be as bad as the header for rasp if it deletes resonators.
My setup is Dezod Green Header -> Megan S Pipe -> Stock Midpipe -> Tanabe Medalion Axleback and it sounds fantastic with absolutely no rasp and minimal cabin drone (car is fully sound deadened). Am also OVTuned. To get a proper midpipe that would not rasp for my setup would be about $500 and the 2-3hp gained from changing it is not worth it to me. That's $500 I can put into my Tacoma.
