Default May... End getting a trans am?

My friend has an 02 silver trans am with 40k miles. He's in a bunch and may need to sell car sometime in future. Car is gorgeous t tops 6 speed black leather interior.
Anyone know anything about these cars? 10-11k worth? Wouldn't be soon soon but i got probably month or two to buy if he's seriously going to part. Looks like this this is a pic from google May... End getting a trans am?-imageuploadedbytapatalk1393595370.656312.jpg

Can't just say that without any explanation? These cars are fast as hell from factory. Only downfall just like tc is cheap plastic on interior.

Yeah, they're "fast"er than the tC. It's a pontiac. They aren't even in business anymore. It's 12 years old, and was a piece of s..t back then too. Very very unreliable car. And just like a mustang, for the last 12 years its been beat to piiiss and you know it. Good luck with that hunk of s..t

It's a fine car, don't listen to any pontiac bashers. While I wouldn't replace your tC with it, it is one really badass car to work on and make fast.

If you have the extra money lying around I'd get it as a project car. Ask your friend what kind of engine is in it (stock or if he did some swap or engine work).

If you are very mechanically inclined, you can make it your daily. You'll be able to tell if something funky happens like any possible misfires; valve springs or head going bad; etc. These cars can make big power, and they are beat on a lot, so yes mechanically they are going to have more problems.

I'd say buy it, hook up a supercharger, roll cage and make it a drag strip/weekend car. should be fun.

As for parts I believe it takes chevy stuff which is definitely still around, plus these cars have a huge following like most muscle cars so the aftermarket should be big.
I am more of a mustang person but i like that pontiac.

Oh Newman! Don't play with my heart! This was all with assuming it would be a daily driver. I'm certainly not a pontiac basher by any means. I just know of a lot of newer firebirds, and they can be a mess.

Default May... End getting a trans am?

Been garage kept entire life, summer only driver. Ls6 engine with 40-50k original everything. Car is mainly stock except some interior changes. I really don't want to work on cars, just change oil and drive. Hoping to hear these cars are pretty stout. >.<

My tc will be my DD trans am will be in my garage and weekend/summer cruiser only. Will be my garage queen, idc about scion much. It has rust protection and such so perfect for dd to drive forever.

If you don't want to work on cars, then I would skip it lol You'll end up putting way more money into it than oil.

Yeah criminaltc, I wouldn't risk it as a daily if the driver doesn't want to mess around with it and know every in and out of the car's construction haha. I'd love one as a project car if mustangs weren't usually cheaper

I don't mind simple maitanance repairs, stuff goes out I got it. But blown engines etc that could be a pain.

well if you don't race it you shouldn't have a blown engine or messed up trans, but who buys a trans am not to race it haha.

See... I'm not such a bad guy after all. I was trying to tell you.. I figured you'd catch on with my first post, but you just needed a little more elaboration.

I don't race. I just like getting 0-65 on highway quick and quicker take offs. Being a prior cop, idk never got into racing. Why race when I could take my cruiser 125mph with no punishment lol? I will never have that freedom again

i meant race on a track or strip. never on streets.

If you are willing to take the risk of slightly less reliability over the tC to be in a faster car, then go for it. And if you get into upgrading it it would be able to beat most import cars. The LS engines are really nice platforms for power, just don't forget to upgrade the transmission as you add more power to it.

Pretty sure that has an LS1 which is one of the most reliable engines GM produced. Only downfall I see is that it is a solid rear axle American car, meaning handling will suck.

I'm sure there are ways to upgrade the drivetrain and suspension somehow, so that the firebird will not suck in handling. I recommend reading about builds on firebirds that are used for track or autocross. There are bound to be specifics about what parts can be used to turn it from a drag strip "straight line" car into something better in corners. Checkout magazines and forums and such.

It'd be a perfect fun weekend cruiser just to go out and enjoy driving. Different people have different taste in cars, if muscle cars are your thing it wold probably be one of the more reliable ones. Its no daily driver but I think it would be an awesome project car.
